Awk — a pattern scanning and processing language

Software: Practice and Experience, 1979
AbstractThis paper describes the design and implementation of awk, a programming language which searches a set of files for patterns, and performs specified actions upon records or fields of records which match the patterns. Awk makes common data selection and transformation operations easy to express; for example, is a complete awk program that ...

Bone Scan Patterns in Acute Osteomyelitis

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1980
Sixteen patients with acute hematogenous osteomyelitis underwent serial Tc-99m-diphosphonate bone scanning on admission and at intervals of four to seven days thereafter. Scans were analyzed by computer-assisted determination of the ratio of activity in the lesion to that in a corresponding area of normal bone. Two patterns were observed.

Reversible Scan Based Diagnostic Patterns

2019 International Symposium on VLSI Design, Automation and Test (VLSI-DAT), 2019
For advanced technologies, the current industry is seeing very complicated silicon defect types and defect distribution. It is very common for the yield of a new design with new technology to start at a very low level and it's critical to ramp up yield as quickly as possible to meet the market window.

Pattern Comparison by Interference Fringe Scanning

Applied Optics, 1974
An apparatus for real-time pattern comparison based on the interference method proposed by Weinberger and Almi is described. Particular emphasis is stressed on its use in fingerprint identification. Preliminary experiments confirmed that the apparatus is feasible for the purpose.

CT scanning: patterns of use and dose

Journal of Radiological Protection, 2000
CT scanning is a relatively high-dose procedure. In spite of the use of magnetic resonance imaging, with faster CT scanners and helical techniques CT is becoming more common. There are few data from practice in the United States regarding the age and sex distribution of patients receiving CT scans, what type of scan and how many scans they receive, or ...

Fringe scanning speckle-pattern interferometry

Applied Optics, 1985
Digital speckle-pattern interferometry systems for automatic measurement of deformations of a diffuse object are presented, which are based on a fringe scanning method with phase-shifted speckle interferograms. A digital speckle pattern before deformation of an object is recorded in the mass storage device of a computer facility.

Reusing Scan Chains for Test Pattern Decompression

Journal of Electronic Testing, 2002
The paper presents a method for testing a system-on-a-chip by using a compressed representation of the patterns on an external tester: The patterns for a certain core under test are decompressed by reusing scan chains of cores idle during that time. The method only requires a few additional gates in the wrapper; while the mission logic is untouched ...

Minimum-scan pattern recognition

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1959
Speedier and simpler pattern-recognition systems can be realized when provided with a minimum-scan reading device. For the idealized case, where the input set of patterns is finite, binary and errorless, a theorem is proved which enables the designer to predict the efficiency range of the contemplated reading device. A constructive method, which can be

Vigilance and scanning patterns in birds

Animal Behaviour, 1984
We present a new approach to the analysis of scanning patterns in feeding birds. We estimate the probability of a bird detecting a predator from the frequency distribution of inter-scan intervals and the proportion of time spent scanning. This method avoids, several unrealistic assumptions implied in earlier analyses of vigilance data, and can ...

Scan pattern optimization for uniform proton beam scanning.

Medical physics, 2009
Magnetic beam scanning allows one to spread proton beam over the desired radiation field area, improving beam utilization and conformity to the target area. This article discusses generic scan forms for generating uniform circular and rectangular fields and establishes criteria that can be applied to optimize selected scan patterns. During construction
