Multihop scatternet formation for Bluetooth networks
Vehicular Technology Conference. IEEE 55th Vehicular Technology Conference. VTC Spring 2002 (Cat. No.02CH37367), 2003This paper describes a new protocol for the establishment of multihop ad hoc networks based on Bluetooth devices. The proposed solution is specification compatible, and achieves the following desirable properties, only a few of which are available in previous solutions.

Decentralized optimization of dynamic Bluetooth scatternets
The Second Annual International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems: Networking and Services, 2005Previous work analytically showed that communication path length reduction is an efficient way for improving the performance of Bluetooth scatternets. Maintaining short communication paths is mainly important in dynamic scatternets with changing traffic flows, mobile nodes and in the presence of interference, when the network topology changes ...

Practical time synchronization for Bluetooth Scatternets
2007 Fourth International Conference on Broadband Communications, Networks and Systems (BROADNETS '07), 2007By means of so-called Scatternets, Bluetooth provides the ability to construct robust wireless multi-hop networks. In this paper we propose a practical protocol for time synchronization of such Bluetooth multi-hop networks. Our protocol makes use of the internal clock maintained by Bluetooth, requires minimal communication overhead, and provides an ...

Efficient Scheduling Algorithms for Bluetooth Scatternets
Wireless Personal Communications, 2008When more than seven devices are connected in a Bluetooth scatternet, bridge devices are used to connect two piconets to the scatternet. To deal with possible data transmissions between different piconets, the bridge device must frequently switch to different masters.

What are the characteristics of optimal bluetooth scatternets?
The First Annual International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems: Networking and Services, 2004. MOBIQUITOUS 2004., 2004The interconnection of piconets in Bluetooth networking has received considerable attention. Whilst a variety of scatternet formation protocols have been proposed, a persistent problem is the comparison of protocol performance, and the quality of Bluetooth network produced.

An empirical study on the performance of bluetooth scatternets
2013 9th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2013Bluetooth scatternet technology was conceived to provide support for ad hoc multihop networking applications. Many theoretical works in the literature have been dedicated to optimize the formation and operation of Bluetooth scatternets. However, the performance of a real scatternet strongly relies on the implementation of the Bluetooth stack in the ...

Inquiry packet interference in bluetooth scatternets
ACM SIGMOBILE Mobile Computing and Communications Review, 2004The key to successfully establishing and maintaining a Bluetooth scatternet is the inquiry procedure which discovers Bluetooth devices within range. The inquiry procedure uses a subset of the hop frequencies used by a piconet. While nodes in a scatternet are in the inquiry substate, they can cause significant interference to the neighboring piconets ...

A self-routing topology for Bluetooth scatternets
Proceedings International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Networks. I-SPAN'02, 2003The emerging Bluetooth standard is considered to be the most promising technology to construct ad-hoc networks. It contains specifications of how to build a piconet but left out details of how to automatically construct a scatternet from the piconets.

An evolutionary Bluetooth scatternet formation protocol
37th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2004. Proceedings of the, 2004Wireless technologies such as 802.11 do not impose topology constraints on the network; however, Bluetooth imposes certain constraints for constructing valid topologies. The performance of Bluetooth depends largely on these topologies. This paper presents and evaluates the performance of a new evolutionary scatternet topology construction protocol for ...

Methods for service discovery in Bluetooth scatternets
Computer Communications, 2004This paper presents methods for service discovery in multi-hop Bluetooth ad hoc networks, so called scatternets. Two service discovery protocols based on filtering of service requests are proposed. Extensive simulation results are presented showing that the protocols significantly reduce network traffic.
