Early Diagnosis and Successful Treatment of Influenza Coinfection With Community‐Onset Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Necrotizing Pneumonia: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Necrotizing pneumonia is a severe and potentially fatal complication of community‐acquired pneumonia, often associated with toxin‐producing or drug‐resistant pathogens. Rapid and accurate identification of these pathogens is crucial for timely intervention. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)–based diagnostic tools, such as the BioFire FilmArray

Tipo de cassette cromosómico estafilocócico en cepas clínicas de Staphylococcus aureus resistentes a meticilina

open access: yesKasmera, 2014
: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) presents a protein that binds to penicillin, the PBP2a, encoded by the gene mecA, located in a mobile genetic element called the staphylococcal chromosomal cassette (SCCmec).

Diversity of SCCmec Elements in Staphylococcus aureus as Observed in South-Eastern Germany

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2016
SCCmec elements are very important mobile genetic elements in Staphylococci that carry beta-lactam resistance genes mecA/mecC, recombinase genes and a variety of accessory genes. Twelve main types and a couple of variants have yet been described. In addition, there are also other SCC elements harbouring other markers.

Characterization and Therapeutic Potential of a Novel Bacteriophage Targeting Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Biofilms on Medical Devices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major cause of multidrug‐resistant and biofilm‐associated infections, particularly on indwelling medical devices, where conventional antibiotics often exhibit limited efficacy. In this study, we isolated and characterized a novel lytic bacteriophage, SA_SGEB_01, targeting MRSA from hospital ...

Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) characterization and molecular analysis for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and novel SCCmec subtype IVg isolated from bovine milk in Korea [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2005
To identify the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated from bovine milk, and examine the genetic relatedness between MRSA from bovine milk and MRSA from human isolates.Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed on MRSA isolated from bovine milk.

A Hypervirulent Community‐Associated Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Sequence Type 59 Strain Shows Enhanced Cytotoxicity and Accessory Gene Regulator Activation Compared With Strain USA300

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Different clonal groups of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), particularly community‐acquired MRSA (CA‐MRSA), have caused widespread outbreaks and transmission in various regions. Methods We used the North American CA‐MRSA epidemic strain USA300, the Asian CA‐MRSA epidemic strain YNSA7, and ATCC43300 as research subjects ...

Molecular characterization of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from a Brazilian university hospital

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2014
The aim of this study was to perform SCCmec typing in Staphylococcus aureus isolates and to characterize the clonal profile of these isolates. Forty-six mecA gene-positive strains isolated between 2002 and 2006 were submitted to antimicrobial resistance ...

Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) Classification and Typing Methods: an Overview

open access: yesPolish Journal of Microbiology, 2011
Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the main causes of hospital-acquired infections, but since late 1990s also the community-acquired. For better understanding of the S.aureus epidemiology there is an urgent need for creation of new typing method for SCCmec element.

Genetic Diversity of Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Isolates From Two Tertiary Care Hospitals in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, Characterized by spa Typing, Coagulase VNTR Sequencing, and REP‐PCR

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus remains a major cause of health care‐associated infection in high‐risk units such as burn and cancer wards. In settings where advanced genotyping schemes are not routinely available, combining complementary molecular typing methods can improve characterization of genetic diversity for surveillance ...
