Haematuria in experimental schistosomiasis mansoni
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1983Haematuria was found in 27% of mice experimentally infected with Schistosoma mansoni. The presence of red blood cells in the urine was detected only after the sixth week of infection. Haematuria was not due to the direct action of the parasite, since no eggs were found in the urinary system.

MRI of Hepatic Schistosomiasis Mansoni
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1995Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in a patient with hepatic schistosomiasis mansoni. On T1-weighted images periportal zones appeared isointense to the surrounding liver, but strongly enhanced after injection of Gd-DTPA. This finding equals periportal enhancement in postcontrast CT studies and does not discriminate between periportal ...

Immunoglobulins in Human Schistosomiasis Mansoni
The Journal of Parasitology, 1971Immunoglobulin levels were determined by the reverse immunodiffusion technique in 3 groups of subjects: (A) 20 patients at the early stage of schistosomiasis mansoni infection; (B) 20 patients at the chronic stage of schistosomiasis; (C) 20 healthy controls. Group A showed significant increase of serum IgG (2,731 ? 608 mg/100 ml) and IgM (144 ?

The Pathogenesis of Schistosomiasis Mansoni
1967Pathogenesis is taken to indicate formal genesis of lesions provoked by an etiologic agent and, in the present case, the mechanisms by which Schistosoma mansoni causes lesions. It is evident that the anatomical and clinical forms in which the disease presents itself will depend upon these mechanisms.
