Antigenic Protein of Leucocytozoon caulleryi schizont Inducing Cellular Immune Resonse: TLR-2 and CD4 as Marker [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Leucocytozoonosis is caused by Leucocytozoon caulleryi and is responsible for death in chickens by bleeding. Leucocytozoonosis is an endemic disease in Indonesia and incidences have been reported in several regions in East and Central Java. The financial

Directional gene expression and antisense transcripts in sexual and asexual stages of Plasmodium falciparum

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2011
Background It has been shown that nearly a quarter of the initial predicted gene models in the Plasmodium falciparum genome contain errors. Although there have been efforts to obtain complete cDNA sequences to correct the errors, the coverage of cDNA ...

In Vitro Antiparasitic Effects of Silver Nanoparticles on Sarcocystis Bradyzoites

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
In vitro, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit dose and time‐dependent antiparasitic activity against Sarcocystis bradyzoites from sheep, achieving up to 59.53% mortality at 800 µg/mL after 120 min. These results suggest AgNPs may be a potential alternative to traditional drugs, meriting further in vivo investigation for veterinary use.

Single‐Cell Transcriptomics and Development of Gametocyte‐Specific Molecular Markers for Avian Malaria Parasites

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Avian malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, poses a significant threat to bird populations worldwide, particularly in vulnerable island ecosystems. Yet, progress in understanding avian malaria transmission dynamics has been hampered by the lack of molecular tools to quantify and sex the transmissible stages of the parasite: the male and ...

Hemoglobin Digestion Genes Are Conserved in Lizard‐Infective Plasmodium Species With Different Host Cellular Niches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Despite their evolutionary relatedness to malaria parasites that infect humans, wildlife Plasmodium—particularly those that infect birds and lizards—are understudied, leaving their vast genetic diversity to be explored. By assembling parasite transcriptomes from Plasmodium‐infected lizard blood, we provide the first evidence that lizard‐infective ...

Disease‐associated mortality drives reduction in Yukon River Chinook salmon escapement: A novel method for quantifying the negative impacts of ‘misfit’ parasites to improve fisheries management

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 6, June 2026.
Alaska Department of Fish and Game is implementing an annual monitoring program at the mouth of the Yukon River where our model will estimate the proportion of Chinook salmon at risk from parasite‐induced mortality to inform annual management. Moreover, the model is broadly applicable to other fungal‐like and myxozoan parasites of conservation concern,

Eimeria tenella Pathogenicity Attenuation Through The Serial Passage of Precocious Lines Toward Number of Schizont and Cecal Histopathology In Broiler

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this study was to produce an attenuated strain of Elmeriatenella by the serial precocious lines. This study used the number of schizont and histopathology scores for signs that the E. tenella had been attenuated.

Clinically uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria with high schizontaemia: A case report

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2008
Background The treatment options for acute Plasmodium falciparum malaria are based on the clinician classifying the patient as uncomplicated or severe according to the clinical and parasitological findings.

Sorting iRBCs by DNA content at 72 hours post-thaw enables isolation of gametocyte from schizont transcriptomes.

open access: yes, 2020
A) The gating strategy for DNA-high, DNA-mid and DNA-low FACS-sorted populations after gating for parasite positive cells as in Fig 1. Representative images of parasites from each sorted population shown with black bar representing 10 micrometers.

Isolation and purification of glycosylphosphatidylinositols (GPIs) in the schizont stage of Theileria annulata and determination of antibody response to GPI anchors in vaccinated and infected animals

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2018
Background Tropical theileriosis is widely distributed from North Africa to East Asia. It is a tick-borne disease caused by Theileria annulata, an obligate two-host intracellular protozoan parasite of cattle.
