Quantitative colour schlieren development

Journal of Visualization, 2014
This work evaluates the potential for producing quantitative data of the density field using a two-dimensional colour schlieren system within the test section of a shock tube. Density gradient components, magnitude and direction, form the basis of the quantitative evaluation.

A Schlieren Microscope

SPIE Proceedings, 1985
A Schlieren microscope is described which can be used to measure profiles of optical quality surfaces. The intensities in the image field are measured with a photo-diode array. By measuring a reference sample and the object, both with and without knife it is possible to correct for different errors.

A schlieren motion estimation method for seedless velocimetry measurement

, 2019
Schlieren imaging is a widely used technique for flow visualization in thermal fluid investigations due to its high sensitivity, flexibility and ease of use.

Review and update of lens and grid schlieren and motion camera schlieren

The European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2010
Optical density variation in fluids and transparent solids can often be studied by examining the effect of refraction of light passing through the medium. The schlieren technique has proven to be particularly well suited for these applications, and has been widely used for wind-tunnel studies.

Rainbow schlieren and its applications

Applied Optics, 1984
In this modification of the schlieren apparatus the knife-edge is replaced by a radial-rainbow filter with a transparent center and opaque surround. Consequently, refractive-index inhomogeneities in the test section appear varicolored, whereas uniformities appear white.

Schlieren imaging and the real world

Journal of Visualization, 2013
Two approaches are presented that allow one to place typically abstract visualizations of compressible flows or other transparent objects with refractive index variations into a realistic and easily accessible context, without the need for a large-scale optical system.
