本研究は第二言語学習におけるアウトプットの役割について考察したものである。Swain(1985,1995)が提唱したアウトプットの機能のひとつである「気づき機能」に焦点をあて,個人でのアウトプットならびに協同で作り上げるアウトプットが学習者の英語仮定法過去完了への気づきやその学習を促進するかどうかを調査した。本研究は,日本人大学一年生79名を被験者とし,事前・事後テストを用いた教室第二言語習得研究である。結果を基に,中学,高等学校におけるアウトプット・タスクを用いた効果的な英語指導法について考察している。
