Entrapment of the sciatic nerve may occur at various areas along its course and may be difficult to differentiate from lesions within the spinal canal, such as a herniated disc. Associated with low back pain, it may make the problem even more difficult, although a detailed history and careful examination may give a clue as to the source of the problem.
