Targeting the β2-integrin LFA-1, reduces adverse neuroimmune actions in neuropathic susceptibility caused by prenatal alcohol exposure

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications, 2019
Recently, moderate prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) was shown to be a risk factor for peripheral neuropathy following minor nerve injury. This effect coincides with elevated spinal cord astrocyte activation and ex vivo immune cell reactivity assessed by ...

Targeting the PDK1/c‐Myc/SOX10 Signaling in Oligodendrocytes Alleviates Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 39, 13 July 2026.
This work reveals that oligodendrocyte homeostasis, mediated by PDK1, is a critical determinant of neuropathic pain (NPP) pathogenesis. Disruption of PDK1 in oligodendrocytes impairs SOX10‐dependent myelination programs through c‐Myc accumulation, leading to disrupted myelination and the pathophysiology of NPP.

Long-Term Treatment With Ranirestat (AS-3201), a Potent Aldose Reductase Inhibitor, Suppresses Diabetic Neuropathy and Cataract Formation in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008
We investigated the chronic functional and histopathological changes in the sciatic nerve and lens of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats and evaluated the preventive effects of ranirestat (AS-3201), a potent aldose reductase inhibitor, on these changes ...

Sciatic neuropathy: findings on magnetic resonance neurography. [PDF]

open access: yesRadiol Bras, 2017
Injuries of the sciatic nerve are common causes of pain and limitation in the lower limbs. Due to its particular anatomy and its long course, the sciatic nerve is often involved in diseases of the pelvis or leg.

Cryoglobulinaemic neuropathy: a further cause of bilateral sciatic neuropathy

open access: yesInternational Archives of Medicine, 2008
Bilateral sciatic neuropathy is a rare condition and it has been described as a compression or entrapment neuropathy but it is an uncommon clinical manifestation due to necrotizing vasculitis. We report an unusual case of cryoglobulinaemic neuropathy in an elderly woman with no underlying infectious or neoplastic cause; acute bilateral sciatic ...

Reinnervation of Muscle Targets Enhances the Separability of Motor Unit Signals Following Peripheral Nerve Transfers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 38, 9 July 2026.
Injured or cut peripheral nerves can be surgically rerouted to reinnervate new muscle targets. This study demonstrates reinnervated muscles exhibit enhanced separability between individual motor unit signals, which can simplify signal recording and decomposition. These findings highlight the potential of reinnervated muscle to serve as a key biological

Integrating yoga into anatomy and clinical medicine education: A holistic approach to learning

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 19, Issue 7, Page 1097-1109, July 2026.
Abstract Anatomical knowledge is fundamental for success in clinical settings. Unfortunately, anatomy education within professional health programs has experienced a continual decrease in contact hours and curricular content over the previous two decades, leading to deficits and potential gaps in anatomical science knowledge.

Oromucosal Administration of a Cannabidiol‐Enriched Cannabis sp. Extract for 2 Weeks Moderately Reduces Cold Hyperalgesia in Rats With Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, Volume 30, Issue 6, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic neuropathic pain (CNP) involves complex interactions between resident and peripheral immune cells, as well as modulation of the endocannabinoid system. Cannabis‐based products have emerged as promising therapeutic options, but their effects on immune cells remain unclear.

Histopathological and behavioral evaluations of the effects of crocin, safranal and insulin on diabetic peripheral neuropathy in rats [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2015
Objectives: Crocin and safranal, the major constituents of saffron, exert neuroprotective effects. In the present study, we investigated the effects of crocin and safranal  (alone or in combination with insulin) on peripheral neuropathy in diabetic rats.
