Non-Resolving Sciatica Due to Sacroiliac Joint Osteophyte Compressing the Sciatic Nerve in a Young Patient: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedic Research, 2021
Sciatica is a common syndrome mostly affecting adults. It has a wide range of etiologies, classified into intra- and extra-spinal, with intra-spinal being the most common, usually due to lumbar disc herniation causing nerve root compression.

Effect of simultaneous application of positional release technique and Maitland mobilization technique on sciatica: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBulletin of Faculty of Physical Therapy, 2022
Background Low back pain (LBP) associated with sciatica is considered the primary cause of seeking medical and physical therapy advice. Treating sciatica symptoms is the main goal in the physical therapy practice, and the literature supports the use of ...

NON DISCOGENIC SCIATICA MIMICKING DISORDERS : A DILEMMA FOR NEUROSURGEONS IN MAKING SURGICAL DECISIONS: A REPORT OF 81 PATIENTS FROM ALI INSTITUTE OF NEUROSCIENCES, IRFAN GENERAL HOSPITAL

open access: yesRehman Journal of Health Sciences, 2023
Introduction: The cause of sciatica is not always discogenic and majority of patients are misdiagnosed as having discogenic sciatica while the underlying non discogenic causes are overlooked. This study aimed at evaluating the frequency of non-discogenic

Ancient Schwannoma Presenting as Sciatica Mimicker: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopedics and Joint Surgery
Sciatica is the pain that radiates from the lower back or buttock to the posterior thigh, calf, and towards the foot. The most common cause of sciatica is intervertebral disc prolapse or degenerative spinal conditions.

Biomaterials‐Based Hydrogel with Superior Bio‐Mimetic Ionic Conductivity and Tissue‐Matching Softness for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By mimicking the ion‐accelerating effect of ion channel receptors in neuron membranes, a biomaterials‐based ionic hydrogel (BIH) is developed, which offers a high ionic conductivity of 7.04 S m−1, outperforming conventional chitosan, cellulose, agarose, starch, and gelatin based ionic hydrogels.

A Bioresorbable Neural Interface for On‐Demand Thermal Pain Block

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioresorbable, implantable neural electronics provide dynamic, on‐demand thermal modulation of peripheral nerves for safe, drug‐free pain relief. A microscale thin‐film heater and temperature sensor embedded within biodegradable encapsulants enable precise temperature control via real‐time feedback.

Risk factors for nonunion of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture: a case‒control study

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background Early assessment of the risk of nonunion in osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is beneficial to early clinical decision making. However, a comprehensive understanding of the risk factors for OVCF nonunion is lacking. Methods We

Self‐Assembling Peptide Hydrogels Support Stromal Vascular Fraction Viability to Promote In Vivo Nerve Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) may enhance nerve repair, especially when delivered in a self‐assembling peptide hydrogel (SAPH). In vitro, softer SAPH increased neuronal explant outgrowth and supported greater SVF viability and proliferation. In a rat sciatic defect, SVF in an optimized SAPH produced motor and sensory recovery equivalent to autograft ...

Clinical diagnostic model for sciatica developed in primary care patients with low back-related leg pain.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
BackgroundIdentification of sciatica may assist timely management but can be challenging in clinical practice. Diagnostic models to identify sciatica have mainly been developed in secondary care settings with conflicting reference standard selection ...
