The basic science of memory as it applies to epilepsy [PDF]

open access: yesEpilepsia, 2007
Summary  The mechanisms of memory delineated by the model of long‐term potentiation (LTP) are similar to those underlying epileptogenesis by kindling. Memory is impaired by seizures and epilepsy. High frequency neural activity is important in both memory formation and seizures.

Toxicology at the interface of basic, applied, and clinical sciences [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Toxicology, 2009
Toxicology, the study of the adverse eVects of chemicals on living organisms, represents an interdisciplinary science that requires both expertise on the chemical nature of the studied compounds and precise knowledge of the normal cellular mechanisms that can be compromised by toxic substances. In the clinical context, the contribution of toxicology is

Radiation-induced enterocolitis: basic and applied science [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Surgery, 2003
We adapted and introduced in our laboratory a simplified animal model of radiation-induced enterocolitis. After a shielding of the parenchymatous organs, our dose-response studies revealed that 20 Gy x-ray radiation resulted in about 20% mortality and reproducible lesions in the terminal ileum and proximal colon.

Dirhodium(II) Carbenes : The Chiral Product Cascade

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Journal for Science, 2000
The last decade has witnessed enormous growth in the spectrum of highly efficient asymmetric synthetic transformations. One prominent example of this progress is the application of dirhodium (II) carbenes generated from diazo- precursors.

Synthesis of a Uniformly Spaced Array with Symmetric Amplitude Excitation by a Weighted Least-Square Method

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Journal for Science, 2007
A new, non-iterative  technique for synthesizing equispaced linear arrays with symmetric excitation is proposed. The methods is on the computation of an  eigenvector of an appropriate real, Symmetric and positive-definite matrix.
