Myths and Falsehoods about Scientific Realism

open access: yesArtefactos, 2018
Selective realist projects seek to strengthen scientific realism, but influential reactions (from anti-realist as well as realist camps) regard selectivist achievements as problematic and misguided developments, because -the story goes- those ...

Localism vs. Individualism for the Scientific Realism Debate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Localism is the view that the unit of evaluation in the scientific realism debate is a single scientific discipline, sub-discipline, or claim, whereas individualism is the view that the unit of evaluation is a single scientific theory.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Rejecting Mathematical Realism while Accepting Interactive Realism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Indispensablists contend that accepting scientific realism while rejecting mathematical realism involves a double standard. I refute this contention by developing an enhanced version of scientific realism, which I call interactive realism.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Rôle et légitimité de la notion de schème conceptuel dans le réalisme de Quine

open access: yesPhilosophia Scientiæ, 2009
Quine’s mathematical and scientific realism is based upon the supposition of an all-inclusive conceptual scheme, presented as a continuation of the elementary concepts and truths acquired during the process of language learning.

Living as if God exists: Looking for Common Ground in Times of Radical Pluralism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper offers some comments on some metaphysical and epistemological claims of theological realism from the perspective of continental philosophy of religion, thereby taking the work of Soskice and Hick as paradigmatic for this kind of philosophical ...
