Characterizing Quantum-Dot-Doped Liquid Scintillator for Applications to Neutrino Detectors [PDF]

open access: yesJINST 7 (2012) P07010, 2012
Liquid scintillator detectors are widely used in modern neutrino studies. The unique optical properties of semiconducting nanocrystals, known as quantum dots, offer intriguing possibilities for improving standard liquid scintillator, especially when combined with new photodetection technology. Quantum dots also provide a means to dope scintillator with

Light propagation and fluorescence quantum yields in liquid scintillators [PDF]

open access: yes2015 JINST 10 P09007, 2015
For the simulation of the scintillation and Cherenkov light propagation in large liquid scintillator detectors a detailed knowledge about the absorption and emission spectra of the scintillator molecules is mandatory. Furthermore reemission probabilities and quantum yields of the scintillator components influence the light propagation inside the liquid.

Scintillations And Microlensing [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1996
It is shown how the theory of scintillation may be applied to treat gravitational lensing. The theory is applied to microlensing by a system of N point masses. It is shown that scintillation theory reproduces a known result for the angular broadening due to multiple microlensing.

Atmospheric Scintillation in Astronomical Photometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Scintillation noise due to the Earth's turbulent atmosphere can be a dominant noise source in high-precision astronomical photometry when observing bright targets from the ground. Here we describe the phenomenon of scintillation from its physical origins to its effect on photometry.

Properties of new scintillator glasses and scintillating fibers [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1986
We present data on the light output and optical properties of new scintillation glasses. Data on light (? ? 2.6g/cm3) and heavy (? > 3.4g/cm3) glasses are presented. In addition, the performance of scintillating glass fibers fabricated using a new light glass is discussed.

Study on the Characteristics of a Scintillator for Beta-ray Detection using Epoxy Resin

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
A thin plate of a plastic scintillator for detecting a beta-ray was developed. The plastic scintillator was made using epoxy resin and organic scintillators such as 2.5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 1,4-bis [5-phenyl-2-oxazole] benzene (POPOP).

Characterization of water-based liquid scintillator for Cherenkov and scintillation separation [PDF]

open access: yesEur. Phys. J. C 80, 867 (2020), 2020
This paper presents measurements of the scintillation light yield and time profile for a number of concentration of water-based liquid scintillator, formulated from linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO). We find that the scintillation light yield is linear with the concentration of liquid scintillator in water between 1 and 10% with a

Scintillation and Thermoluminescence Properties of a New Scintillator YPS:Ce [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Inorganic Materials, 2010
Cerium doped yttrium pyrosilicate Y2Si2O7:Ce(YPS) single crystal was obtained through the floating zone method. The scintillation and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of YPS:Ce were studied. The scintillation and optical properties of YPS:Ce crystal were characterized by light output, decay time and transmittance.
