TOPS project: Development of new fast timing plastic scintillators. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In particle physics charged particles are measured exploiting many different detection strategies. The plastic scintillators are cheap, versatile and show good time response, thus are traditionally employed as timing detectors.

Properties of new scintillator glasses and scintillating fibers [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1986
We present data on the light output and optical properties of new scintillation glasses. Data on light (? ? 2.6g/cm3) and heavy (? > 3.4g/cm3) glasses are presented. In addition, the performance of scintillating glass fibers fabricated using a new light glass is discussed.

Metal-loaded organic scintillators for neutrino physics

open access: yes, 2016
Organic liquid scintillators are used in many neutrino physics experiments of the past and present. In particular for low energy neutrinos when realtime and energy information are required, liquid scintillators have several advantages compared to other ...

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Distributed feedback lasing of commercial liquid scintillators

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceIt is shown that lasing can be achieved in commercial organic liquid scintillators. Using a dynamic grating induced by an interference pattern in the scintillator volume, distributed feedback lasing is shown to occur in four out of ...

Carboranyl‐Curcuminoids for the Neutron Capture‐Based Treatment of Amyloid Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 10B‐enriched monocarbonyl analog of curcumin (BMAC) 10B‐9 enables site‐specific Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) on amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils. Neutron irradiation induces histidine oxidation and fibril destabilization, as revealed by 1H‐NMR and FESEM analyses.

Palladacarboxamide Capping Reagents for Carbon Isotope Labeling and Pharmaceutical Diversification

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Herein, we present a method for carbon isotope labeling of arylamides via the coupling of air‐stable palladium carboxamide complexes and boronic ester/acids. A wide variety of functionalized boronic esters and acids have been coupled with simple palladium carboxamides complexes.
