Scleroderma Renal Crisis Prior to Scleroderma
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1989SCLERODERMA renal crisis (SRC) is characterized by rapid onset of severe hypertension and rapid deterioration of renal function. Although this event usually complicates established progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), occasionally SRC may be the mode of presentation of the illness.

Scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) is characterized by malignant hypertension and oligo-anuric acute renal failure. It occurs in 5% of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc), particularly in patients with diffuse disease during the first years. SRC is more common in patients receiving corticosteroids, the risk increasing with increasing dose.
