ABSTRACT The ubiquitin‐dependent Arg/N‐degron pathway relates the stability of a substrate protein to the nature of its N‐terminal amino acid residue or its biochemical modifications, with some N‐terminal residues being recognized by specific E3 ubiquitin ligases, resulting in the ubiquitylation and degradation of the substrate protein.

First Report of Sclerotium Rot Caused by Sclerotium rolfsii on Yacón in South Korea
Yacón, or ground apple (Smallanthus sonchifolius), is a perennial plant grown in the northern and central Andes from Colombia to northern Argentina for its crisp, sweet, and tuberous roots. In 2012, yacóns cultivated in the research field of the Gyeongsangnam-do Agriculture and Extension Services, Jinju, South Korea, suddenly died.

In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.
