Knowledge graph completion based on iteratively learning embeddings and noise-aware rules

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Computer and Information Sciences
Knowledge graph completion (KGC) is used to infer new facts from existing facts. Embedding-based KGC methods efficiently predict new facts by computing similarities among embeddings, whereas rule-based KGC methods achieve accuracy by applying logical ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

The impact of leukocyte‐associated RNA retention on platelet RNA‐based cancer detection

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Platelets carry RNA signals that may help detect cancer, but platelet samples can also retain RNA from white blood cells. We found that this retained white blood cell signal did not significantly affect machine learning cancer classification, suggesting that the cancer‐related RNA signal in platelets is largely independent of leukocyte‐associated RNA ...

Weak undominance in scoring rule elections

open access: yes
Weak undominance is a standard refinement in the voting literature. This work characterizes the set of weakly undominated voting strategies in scoring rule elections.

SGPE-S: Evolution of Interpretable Policies for Decentralized Multi-UAV Coverage in Communication- and GNSS-Denied Environments

open access: yesDrones
Coverage by multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under communication and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) denial requires aircraft to make independent decisions from local observations, reduce redundant exploration without continuously ...

Overcoming platinum resistance by the disulfiram metabolite CuET in novel preclinical models of human carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cisplatin‐resistant cancer cells survive DNA‐damaging platinum‐based treatment yet remain sensitive to CuET‐induced proteotoxic stress. The distinct mechanism of action allows CuET to overcome and eliminate cisplatin‐resistant tumour cells, unless highly expressed metallothioneins (MTs) interfere with CuET, thereby highlighting MT levels as candidate ...

On Training Survival Models with Scoring Rules

open access: yes
Scoring rules are an established way of comparing predictive performances across model classes. In the context of survival analysis, they require adaptation in order to accommodate censoring. This work investigates using scoring rules for model training rather than evaluation. Doing so, we establish a general framework for training survival models that

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.
