Modelling the effect of sediment coarseness on local scour at wide bridge piers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Experimental data from a physical model of scouring around a cylindrical wide pier embedded in two types of uniform sediment beds are presented. The effects of sediment sizes and various pier widths on scour development and equilibrium scour depth of ...

The anatomy of exhumed river-channel belts: Bedform to belt‐scale river kinematics of the Ruby Ranch Member, Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation, Utah, USA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Many published interpretations of ancient fluvial systems have relied on observations of extensive outcrops of thick successions. This paper, in contrast, demonstrates that a regional understanding of palaeoriver kinematics, depositional setting and ...

Clear-water scour at comparatively large cylindrical piers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
New long-duration clear-water scour data were collected at single cylindrical piers with the objective of investigating the effect of sediment coarseness, Dp=D50 (Dp = pier diameter; D50 = median grain size) on the equilibrium scour depth and improving ...

Vaginal host–microbe signatures linked to placental outcomes in mares

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Ascending placentitis is a leading cause of late‐term pregnancy loss in mares. Although pathogens are presumed to ascend from the caudal reproductive tract, the association between the vaginal microbiome and placentitis has not been systematically examined.

Experimental, Analytical, and Numerical Evaluation of Bridge Pier Scouring

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering
Due to the rising number of incidents of bridge failure, scouring around bridges has received a lot of attention. Accurate scour depth prediction is a challenge for researchers and experts, despite massive global research efforts.

On the influence of apron and cutoff wall configurations on scour protection downstream grade control structures

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Local scour downstream of hydraulic structures poses a major challenge in fluvial engineering, often compromising the stability of river control systems. Falling and impinging jets from Grade Control Structures (GCSs) are key contributors to cavity scour

Pola Gerusan Lokal pada Model Pilar Jembatan Lingkaran Ganda (Double Circular) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pillar of the bridge on the stream causes changes flow patterns and local scour. Local scour will decrease the power of pillar to sustaining bridge load.

Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Piper spp. Volatile Oils That Inhibit Pathogenic Microorganisms

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.

An investigation into the potential losses of fish on the filter plates at the Hodder Water Treatment Works Stocks Reservoir [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Stocks Reservoir is situated amidst the Forest of Bowland in the upper reaches of the old river valley of the Hodder. The reservoir was built in 1927 for the Fylde Water Board who primarily supplied water to Blackpool.
