“Virtual Autism” and Excessive Screen Exposure in Children Aged 0-3 Years: A Cross-sectional Study in the Lebanese Context

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine
Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), characterized by complex neurobiological traits, lacks specific biomarkers, necessitating an in-depth behavioral assessment.

Patterns of early exposure to screens by children with ASD

open access: yesDiscover Mental Health
To further explore and discuss the characteristics of exposure to screens in Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Tunisian context. This case control study explored the exposure to TV in 150 children with ASD, aged 1 to 4 years old in comparison to a comparable group of 150 typically developing children. Results showed Significant differences were observed ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Evaluation of Problematic Media Use in Children with Cerebral Palsy Aged 4–11 Years: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesChildren
Background/Objectives: Excessive screen exposure that negatively impacts a person’s life is referred to as problematic media use (PMU). In healthy children, PMU is associated with a sedentary lifestyle and negative health outcomes. However, this issue is

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Screen exposure exacerbates ADHD symptoms indirectly through increased sleep disturbance

open access: yes, 2021
International audienceThe aim of this study was twofold. First, to confirm the deleterious aspect of evening screen exposure in school-aged children, in particular the effect of screens in the bedroom. Second, to explore the three-way association between

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

LEVEL OF SCREEN EXPOSURE AMONG CHILDREN ATTENDING PRESCHOOL EDUCATION AND CARE

open access: yesResearch in Education and Rehabilitation
Children of preschool age are exposed to digital media/screens to varying degrees. While some authors highlight the positive effects of screen exposure, others emphasize the negative impacts, particularly on early childhood growth and ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
