Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

National Bowel Cancer Screening Program: monitoring report 2012-2013 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
One out of every 17 bowel cancer assessments in Australia from July 2012 to June 2013 detected an advanced adenoma (precancerous lesion), and a bowel cancer was detected in one out of every 32 assessments.

Comparison of breast and bowel cancer screening uptake patterns in a common cohort of South Asian women in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Inequalities in uptake of cancer screening by ethnic minority populations are well documented in a number of international studies. However, most studies to date have explored screening uptake for a single cancer only.

Older adults’ preferences for colorectal cancer-screening test attributes and test choice

open access: yesPatient Preference and Adherence, 2015
Background Understanding which attributes of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening tests drive older adults’ test preferences and choices may help improve decision making surrounding CRC screening in older adults.

Shifting paradigms in primary aldosteronism: reconsideration of screening strategy via integrating pathophysiological insights

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
Several decades have passed since the description of the first patient with primary aldosteronism (PA). PA was initially classified in two main forms: aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA).

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Screening of the patient with hyperthyroidism using routine test data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A complementary study to our former work is performed about screening of the patient with hyperthyroidism using routine test data. The same calculation is done, however, adopting 17 routine tests in addition to former 14 tests.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
