Numerical Simulations and Full Scale Behavior of SDCM and DCM Piles on Soft Bangkok Clay

open access: yesSoils and Rocks, 2011
A new kind of reinforced Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) pile, namely: Stiffened Deep Cement Mixing (SDCM) pile is introduced to mitigate the problems due to the low flexural resistance, lack of quality control in the field and unexpected failure of DCM pile. The SDCM pile consists of DCM pile reinforced with precast concrete core pile.

Reversible Conjugate Addition in Thiol‐Mediated Uptake

open access: yesHelvetica Chimica Acta, Volume 108, Issue 10, October 2025.
In a firework of dynamic covalent Michael addition chemistry, unorthodox, sulfur−rich bissulf(ox)idoenone acceptors activate classical reversible cyanoacrylamide acceptors to record performances in thiol−mediated uptake and reveal two new, mechanistically distinct and selective dynamic covalent exchange cascades with cellular thiols to activate and ...

Gill evolution in Neotropical electric fishes: Comparative phylogenetic evidence for hypoxia‐driven adaptation

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 8, Page 1940-1956, August 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Tropical freshwater fishes are often exposed to hypoxia, which limits aerobic metabolism and drives the evolution of diverse physiological, behavioural and morphological adaptations.

Measurement of individual red blood cell motions under high hematocrit conditions using a confocal micro-PTV system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Developments in optical experimental techniques have helped in elucidating how blood flows through microvessels. Although initial developments were encouraging, studies on the flow properties of blood in microcirculation have been limited by several ...

Evaluation of Orbit, Clock and Ionospheric Corrections from Five Currently Available SBAS L1 Services: Methodology and Analysis

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
To meet the demands of civil aviation and other precise navigation applications, several satellite-based augmentation systems (SBASs) have been developed around the world, such as the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) for North America, the European ...

A Comparative Study of SBAS Systems for Navigation in Geostationary Orbit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Real data has been collected from space demonstrating the CanX-2 receiver’s ability to track the WAAS, EGNOS, GAGAN, and MSAS systems. Two types of analysis were performed, in order to assess the suitability of SBAS ranging measurements as a source of ...

The V‐Shaped Structuring Regulated via the LuxS‐Dependent Quorum‐Sensing Pathway Is Associated With Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Survivability in Acidic Environments

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 2, Page 801-818, March 2025.
This study elucidates how the V‐shaped multicellular structuring facilitates the 3D‐biofilm formation through the LuxS‐dependent quorum‐sensing pathway, which provides an extraordinary protection mode for cellular survivability in highly acidic conditions.

Soft and Deformable Thermoresponsive Hollow Rod‐Shaped Microgels

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 1, January 8, 2025.
The synthesis and characterization of micrometric rod‐shaped hollow responsive microgels are outlined, along with proof‐of‐concept experiments that emphasize the potential applications of these systems in various self‐assembly processes, both in dispersion and at fluid interfaces. Abstract Depending on their aspect ratio, rod‐shaped particles exhibit a

Influence of cement-stabilized soil enhancement on the axial bearing performance of bridge shafts: Field test and numerical simulation

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Post-grouted shafts (PGDS) and stiffened deep cement mixed (SDCM) shafts reinforce the surrounding soils with cement to enhance the bearing capacity of shaft foundations, and their applications are becoming increasingly widespread.
