Calibration of sea ice dynamic parameters in an ocean‐sea ice model using an ensemble Kalman filter [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2014
AbstractThe choice of parameter values is crucial in the course of sea ice model development, since parameters largely affect the modeled mean sea ice state. Manual tuning of parameters will soon become impractical, as sea ice models will likely include more parameters to calibrate, leading to an exponential increase of the number of possible ...

An assessment of key model parametric uncertainties in projections of Greenland Ice Sheet behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Lack of knowledge about the values of ice sheet model input parameters introduces substantial uncertainty into projections of Greenland Ice Sheet contributions to future sea level rise.

The Effects of Ice Floe‐Floe Interactions on Pressure Ridging in Sea Ice

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2021
The mechanical interactions between ice floes in the polar sea‐ice packs play an important role in the state and predictability of the sea‐ice cover. We use a Lagrangian‐based numerical model to investigate such floe‐floe interactions.

Remote Measurement of Sea Ice Dynamics With Regularized Optimal Transport [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
AbstractAs Arctic conditions rapidly change, human activity in the Arctic will continue to increase and so will the need for high‐resolution observations of sea ice. While satellite imagery can provide high spatial resolution, it is temporally sparse and significant ice deformation can occur between observations.

Differences Between the CMIP5 and CMIP6 Antarctic Sea Ice Concentration Budgets

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Compared to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) climate models, the Antarctic sea ice area (SIA) has been improved in Phase 6 (CMIP6).

Holocene sea-ice dynamics in Petermann Fjord [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract. The Petermann 2015 Expedition to Petermann Fjord and adjacent Hall Basin recovered a transect of cores from Nares Strait to under the 48 km long ice tongue of Petermann glacier, offering a unique opportunity to study ice-ocean-sea ice interactions at the interface of these realms.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Recent changes in the dynamic properties of declining Arctic sea ice: A model study

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2012
Results from a numerical model simulation show significant changes in the dynamic properties of Arctic sea ice during 2007–2011 compared to the 1979–2006 mean.

Dynamics of Arctic sea ice discussed at workshop [PDF]

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 2000
Sea ice is an interesting geophysical material: it behaves as a large‐scale hardening plastic. Consider the impact of the sea‐ice covers mechanical behavior on the energy and momentum exchange within the complex atmosphere‐ice‐ocean system. Sea ice acts as an insulator between the relatively warm ocean water and the cold polar atmosphere. Sea ice cover

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
