Dietary Tenebrio molitor Larvae Meal Inclusion Exerts Tissue-Specific Effects on Cellular, Metabolic, and Antioxidant Status in European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, 2022
The present study addresses the effects of dietary Tenebrio molitor (TM) larvae meal inclusion on cytoprotective, cell death pathways, antioxidant defence, and intermediate metabolism in the heart, muscle, and digestive tract of gilthead seabream (Sparus

Experimental susceptibility of European sea bass and Senegalese sole to different betanodavirus isolates

open access: yes, 2015
The susceptibility of juvenile European sea bass and Senegalese sole to three VNNV isolates (a reassortant RGNNV/SJNNV, as well as the parental RGNNV and SJNNV genotypes) has been evaluated by challenges using two inoculation ways (bath and intramuscular

Tunable‐Threshold UV Dosimetry With Programmable Luminescent Tags via Oxygen‐Mediated Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A fully organic UV threshold dosimeter is developed by exploiting the oxygen‐sensitive room‐temperature phosphorescence of a purely organic emitter in a polymer matrix. Upon reaching a specific cumulative UV dose, photochemical oxygen depletion triggers a sharp, high‐contrast emission.

Molecular characterization of three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors from the sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)

open access: yes, 2004
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) are nuclear hormone receptors that control the expression of genes involved in lipid homeostasis in mammals.

Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

Synthetic Antimicrobial Peptides Fail to Induce Leucocyte Innate Immune Functions but Elicit Opposing Transcriptomic Profiles in European Sea Bass and Gilthead Seabream

open access: yesMarine Drugs
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising molecules in diverse fields, including aquaculture. AMPs possess lytic effects on a wide range of pathogens, resulting in a potential replacement for traditional antimicrobials in aquaculture. In addition, they

SuperSAGE digital expression analysis of differential growth rate in a European sea bass population

open access: yesAquaculture and Fisheries, 2019
One of the goals of the aquaculture industry is to understand and control growth associated traits through selective breeding. In the present study the molecular basis of growth heterogeneity in the European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) was addressed.

A 3D Human Bone and Bone Marrow‐on‐a‐Chip Model for In Vitro Bone Remodeling and Immune Cell Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a human Bone (and Bone Marrow)‐on‐a‐Chip model based on native human bone scaffolds and autologous cells. Dynamic perfusion and sequential cell seeding replicate the physiological bone remodeling process in vitro, enabling the long‐term culture of functional, mature bone marrow immune subpopulations.

Multimodal Imaging Reveals Rapid Catecholamine Uptake and Release by Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We show that immune cells (neutrophils) synthesize, uptake, and store catecholamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine or adrenaline. They also release them in response to specific stimuli (serotonin), which we directly visualize using fluorescent nanosensors. We further demonstrate that catecholamines affect neutrophil functions (NETosis) and platelet
