Impact of Ross Gyre on surface circulation in the Amundsen Sea, Antarctica
The east limb of the Ross Gyre approaches the western Amundsen Sea, thereby exerting an influence on the surface circulation dynamics. This study investigates the impact of the zonal movement of the eastern boundary of the Ross Gyre on the surrounding ...

Surface roughness signatures of summer arctic snow-covered sea ice in X-band dual-polarimetric SAR
Surface roughness of sea ice is primary information for understanding sea ice dynamics and air–ice–ocean interactions. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a powerful tool for investigating sea ice surface roughness owing to the high sensitivity of its ...

Wind-Forced Delayed Action Oscillator in Tropical Oceans with Satellite Multi-Sensor Observations
This study investigates correlations among interannual variabilities of sea surface wind, sea surface temperature (SST), and sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) in the tropical region from latitude 15°S to 15°N.

Monitoring coastal sea level using reflected GNSS signals [PDF]
A continuous monitoring of coastal sea level changes is important for human society since it is predicted that up to 332 million people in coastal and low-lying areas will be directly affected by flooding from sea level rise by the end of the 21st ...

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Assimilation of dynamic topography in a global model [PDF]
Absolute dynamic topography, i.e. the difference between time dependent multi-mission altimetric sea surface height and one of the most recent GOCE and GRACE based geoids, is assimilated in a global ocean general circulation model. To this end we apply

Modes of ocean variability in the tropical Pacific as derived from Geosat altimetry [PDF]
Satellite-derived (Geosat altimetry) sea surface height anomalies for the period November 1986 to September 1989 were investigated in order to extract the dominant modes of climate variability in the tropical Pacific.

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,

Southern Ocean fronts: Controlled by wind or topography? [PDF]
The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. Here we explore the relative importance of bottom topography and winds for the location of Southern Ocean fronts, using 100 years of a ...
