The impact of Arctic sea ice loss on mid-Holocene climate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mid-Holocene climate was characterized by strong summer solar heating that decreased Arctic sea ice cover. Motivated by recent studies identifying Arctic sea ice loss as a key driver of future climate change, we separate the influences of Arctic sea ice ...

Extension of sea surface temperature unpredictability

open access: yesOcean Dynamics, 2018
The sea surface temperature (SST) variability is clearly affected by global climate patterns, which involve large-scale ocean-atmosphere fluctuations similar to the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). We give mathematical arguments for the SST to be unpredictable over oceans. Sensitivity (unpredictability) is the core ingredient of chaos.

Sea Surface Temperature Derived From FY-4A/AGRI

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
In this study, we develop an improved algorithm for retrieving sea surface temperature (SST) from the Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager (AGRI) on the Fengyun-4A satellite (FY-4A).

Air–Sea Interface Parameters and Heat Flux from Neural Network and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer Observations

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
We present a new approach, based on a multi-parameter back-propagation neural network (BPNN) model, to simultaneously retrieve sea surface wind speed, sea surface temperature, near-surface air temperature, and dewpoint temperature over the global oceans ...

Validation of reanalysis Southern Ocean atmosphere trends using sea ice data [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2020
Reanalysis products are an invaluable tool for representing variability and long-term trends in regions with limited in situ data, and especially the Antarctic.

Atmospheric response to observed intraseasonal tropical sea surface temperature anomalies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The major tropical convective and circulation features of the intraseasonal or Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) are simulated as a passive response to observed MJO sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM),

Accounting for changing temperature patterns increases historical estimates of climate sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Eight atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs) are forced with observed historical (1871–2010) monthly sea surface temperature and sea ice variations using the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project II data set.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in
