Genotoxicity of gemfibrozil in the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)
Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis, 2017Widespread use of pharmaceuticals and suboptimal wastewater treatment have led to increased levels of these substances in aquatic ecosystems. Lipid-lowering drugs such as gemfibrozil, which are among the most abundant human pharmaceuticals in the environment, may have deleterious effects on aquatic organisms. We examined the genotoxicity of gemfibrozil

Abstract The red seabream (Pagrus major) is an economically important marine fish species that is cultured in Japan. Natural outbreaks of red seabream iridovirus (RSIV) and/or Streptococcus iniae can cause massive mortalities and severe economic losses in red seabream production.

ABSTRACT The western North Pacific supports important commercial fish species that make a large contribution to the world seafood supply. The two monsoon seasons significantly influence western North Pacific oceanography, affecting ocean currents, sea surface temperatures, and other processes that affect marine ecosystems and the ...

The feeding habits of Sparus aurata L., Diplodus annularis L. and Spondyliosoma cantharus L. in the Ria Formosa (southern Portugal) lagoon system were studied using three simple methods (frequency of occurrence, numeric percentage and percentage weight) and a composite index [index of relative importance (IRI)].

The experiments were designed to evaluate the suitability for mariculture of the diploid and triploid hybrids of gilthead seabream Sparus aurata and red seabream Pagrus major, both of which are members of the Sparidae family. Performance testing of the hybrids was carried out in comparison with the parental species under the same controlled environment.

Thermal sensitivity of native and invasive seabreams
Marine Ecology, 2013AbstractThis study compared the mortality and metabolic response of the Senegal seabream, Diplodus bellottii, an African species recently reported in Southern Europe and the white seabream Diplodus sargus, a native species, across a range of temperatures. The temperatures tested were 18, 26, 28 and 30 °C. Mortality was zero at 18 °C and very low at all

Using a recombinant chimeric single-chain follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), we established a radioimmunoassay (RIA) for red seabream (Pagrus major) FSH (pmFSH) which became a powerful tool for studying reproductive physiology. We studied the profiles in plasma and pituitary concentrations of FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH) during sexual maturation ...

Metastatic fibrosarcoma in black seabream (Spondyliosoma cantharus)
2010An adult male black sea bream, Spondyliosoma cantharus with a tumour showing a plaque shape and partially covering the eye was examined. The surface was smooth and white-greyish in colour with localised haemorrhage. Histologically, the neoplasm was characterized by spindle cells with basophilic well defined cytoplasm.
