Destructive testing of geomembrane seams: Shear and peel testing of seam strength

Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 1990
Abstract An essential step to assure the proper long-term performance of a geomembrane liner that is in the process of being installed is 100% inspection of the seams to ensure their continuity. This step must be complemented with destructive testing of the seams to ensure their strength and integrity.

Seams of Different Ply Properties. Part II: Seam Strength

Journal of the Textile Institute, 1993
In the first part of this series, the effects of differences in ply properties and of the mean properties of the plies on seam appearance were examined and discussed. The present part is concerned with the effects of the same factors on seam strength; it also discusses factors affecting fabric strength along different bias angles.

Fatigue strength of mash seam welded joints

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2000
Reversed bending fatigue tests have been conducted using four series of mash seam welded joints obtained from the coupling of two different steels and plate thicknesses. Fatigue strength was evaluated and the effects of material property changes resulting from welding were studied.

Bending strength of standing seam roof panels

Thin-Walled Structures, 1997
Abstract The standing seam roof panel system is used extensively in residential, commercial and institution type building structures in the USA. The roof system is typically, designed for both gravity loading (construction and other live load) and uplift (from wind).

Destructive testing of polyethylene geomembrane seams: Various methods to evaluate seam strength

Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 1990
Abstract The incidence of high-density polyethylene geomembrane liner failures makes it essential that as much information as possible regarding seam performance be extracted from testing. The durability of polyethylene geomembrane seams can be determined largely by the data resulting from conventional seam peel and shear destructive tests ...

Impact of Various Stitch Classes and Seam Types on Seam Strength

International Journal of Research and Innovation in Social Science
The longevity of apparel can be increased by choosing suitable types of fabric, thread and seam class. Basic choices include type, thread, cloth, and seam. Components of clothing stability seam strength, strength efficiency, puckering, slippage, boldness, and appearance are factors that affect seam quality.

Paper wet strength at the press felt seam

Nordic Pulp & Paper Research Journal
Abstract Paper machine press felts often contain seams that facilitate their manufacturing and replacement. However, in industrial practice, breaks in the paper sheet commonly initiate at these seam locations. This study examines how press felt seams affect the local wet strength of high grammage papers.
