Practical small-scale explosive seam welding [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A small-scale explosive seam welding process has been developed that can significantly contribute to remote metal joining operations under hazardous or inaccessible conditions, such as nuclear reactor repair and assembly of structure in space. This paper

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Mine Experimental Research of the Power Options of Mechanized Fastening Sections Based on Lithological Structure Coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The results of simulation systems of the rock-mass using the new mathematical approaches and modern information software are introduced. The contacts of rock mass strata are presented as the curves in the simulation model.

Road and bridge construction across gypsum karst in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Gypsum karst problems in the Permian and Triassic sequences of England have caused difficult conditions for bridge and road construction. In Northern England, the Ripon Bypass crosses Permian strata affected by active gypsum karst and severe subsidence ...

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Curvature‐Tuned Friction at Electrified Ionic Liquid Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene curvature plays a key role in friction electrotunability at single‐asperity contacts lubricated by ionic liquids. A 9 nm radius yields stronger tunability than larger radii, with distinct friction coefficients at low and high loads indicating a shift in the slippage plane.
