Sebaceous Gland Hyperplasia

Sebaceous gland hyperplasia refers to hypertrophic enlargement of the sebaceous glands. Though benign, its predilection for cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face make efficacious treatment options desirable. While multiple therapeutic modalities are available, sebaceous hyperplasia can be treated quickly and successfully with cryosurgery.

The Sebaceous Gland

This chapter introduces an in vitro model as a means of studying human hormonal aging. For this purpose, human sebaceous gland cells were maintained under a hormone-substituted environment. This environment consisted of growth factors and sex steroids in concentrations corresponding to those circulating in young and postmenopausal women.
