Sex differences in cerebral blood flow and cardiac function in response to exercise in the heat
Abstract We investigated the effect of exercising in hot conditions on cerebral blood flow and systolic left ventricular (LV) function in males and females, to explore sex differences. The experimental condition consisted of walking on a treadmill at 5 km/h and 2% incline, inside a heat chamber at 40°C (50% relative humidity), for 90 min.

Biodiversidade e riscos antrópicos no nordeste do Brasil
O artigo chama a atenção para a premissa de que a biodiversidade representa uma das mais importantes bases do desenvolvimento cultural, social e econômico da espécie humana e que suas perdas estão também associadas aos riscos naturais (seca) e antrópicos

Predicting malting barley protein concentration [PDF]
The preferred grain protein concentration (CP) of malting barley is 10.5-11.0%, but 9.5-11.5% is acceptable. It is a challenge for farmers to achieve this target with crops grown in heterogeneous fields and exposed to fluctuating weather conditions ...

Abstract Sedentary behaviour is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. In healthy adults, prolonged uninterrupted sitting acutely increases blood pressure (BP) and aortic stiffness; however, these effects can be mitigated with light physical activity interruptions.

The C-terminal tail of the bacterial translocation ATPase SecA modulates its activity
In bacteria, the translocation of a subset of proteins across the cytoplasmic membrane by the Sec machinery requires SecA. Although SecA can recognise nascent polypeptides, the mechanism of cotranslational substrate protein recognition is not known. Here,

Abstract Exercise in the heat often causes gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances, which can impair performance. Single amino acid supplementation can attenuate gut damage and enhance exercise tolerance; however, the effectiveness of innate amino acid blends from plant‐based proteins remains underexplored.

Abstract figure legend To investigate age‐related differences in ventilatory and cerebrovascular responses to exercise at high‐altitude, adults (n = 10, 23–44 years) and children (n = 8, 7–14 years) completed progressive cycling exercise tests at sea‐level and following 6 days of acclimatization at 3800 m.

Abstract figure legend Exhaustive cycling exercise substantially reduces liver and muscle glycogen stores. During 12 h of post‐exercise recovery without carbohydrate intake, glycogen stores remain depleted. In contrast, when carbohydrate is consumed at 10 g/kg body mass (BM), provided during the first 6 h as sucrose beverages (1.2 g/kg BM/h), liver ...
