An Investigation of the Acoustic Enclosure of an Air Conditioning Compressor Using Response Surface Analysis and Topological Rigidity Optimization

open access: yesShock and Vibration
A novel split-type air conditioning system is introduced to balance usability and portability. Unlike conventional split-type systems, where the compressor is typically placed outside, this system situates the compressor within the indoor unit, which may

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Evaluation of the energy performance of a shallow geothermal facility through a second‐order cone programming

open access: yesEngineering Reports
Energy consumption and operational cost are two decision‐making factors which evaluate the feasibility of any energy system. Whether a thermal unit is efficiently working or not depends on the state properties of the thermodynamic system.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Investigation of a System Combining Separate Hydrolysis and Fermentation of Biomass with a Direct-Ethanol Solid Oxide Fuel Cell: Thermodynamic and Reaction Kinetic Studies

open access: yesEnergies
Bioethanol can be efficiently produced from lignocellulosic biomass via two-phase processes, consisting of enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. To enhance economic and energy efficiency, a system combining separate hydrolysis and fermentation of ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.
