Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Narratives of trust: sharing knowledge as a second-order emotion

open access: yes, 2017
Our aim is to examine why trust can be considered a second-order emotion and how the way in which trust plays out differently in aesthetic and ordinary contexts can provide another mode of investigating second-order emotions.

Second order spiral splines [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Aided Geometric Design, 2019
Second order spiral splines are $C^2$ unit-speed planar curves that can be used to interpolate a list $Y$ of $n+1$ points in $\R ^2$ at times specified in some list $T$, where $n\geq 2$. Asymptotic methods are used to develop a fast algorithm, based on a pair of tridiagonal linear systems and standard software.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

LMI based Stability and Stabilization of Second-order Linear Repetitive Processes

open access: yes, 2010
This paper develops new results on the stability and control of a class of linear repetitive processes described by a second-order matrix discrete or differential equation.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Second-order mollified derivatives and optimization [PDF]

open access: yes
The class of strongly semicontinuous functions is considered. For these functions the notion of mollified derivatives, introduced by Ermoliev, Norkin and Wets, is extended to the second order.

Second order phase field asymptotics for multi-component systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
An asymptotic analysis of a phase field model for solidification in multicomponent alloy systems is presented. In the limit of vanishing interface thickness the related sharp interface model is approximated to second order by taking a non-constant ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Computing the Set of RBF-FD Weights Within the Integrals of a Kernel-Based Function and Its Applications

open access: yesAxioms
This paper offers an approach to computing Radial Basis Function–Finite Difference (RBF-FD) weights by integrating a kernel-based function. We derive new weight sets that effectively approximate both the first and second differentiations of a function ...
