Catalytic Cross-Coupling of Secondary Alcohols
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2019Herein, an unprecedented ruthenium(II) catalyzed direct cross-coupling of two different secondary alcohols to β-disubstituted ketones is reported. Cyclic, acylic, symmetrical, and unsymmetrical secondary alcohols are selectively coupled with aromatic benzylic secondary alcohols to provide ketone products.

Direct Amination of Secondary Alcohols Using Ammonia
Angewandte Chemie - International Edition, 2010Hydrogen shuttle: For the first time secondary alcohols and ammonia can be directly converted into primary amines with a selectivity of up to 99¿% by using a simple ruthenium/phosphine catalyst (see scheme; R1, R2= alkyl, aryl, alkenyl; M=[Ru3(CO)12]; and L=phosphine ligand).

Secondary alcohol dehydrogenase
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1962Abstract Secondary alcohol dehydrogenase, purified from a species of Pseudomonas , is specific for the DPN-linked oxidation of secondary alcohols and the DPNH-linked reduction of ketones; substrates include isopropanol, cyclohexanol and acetone.

Controlled racemization of enantiopure phenyl-ring-containing secondary alcohols is achieved in this study using W110A secondary alcohol dehydrogenase from Thermoanaerobacter ethanolicus (W110A TeSADH) and in the presence of the reduced and oxidized forms of its cofactor nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide.

Mechanism of oxidation of secondary alcohols by bromine—oxidation of bicyclic secondary alcohols
Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - Section A, 1968The kinetics of the bromine oxidation of borneol, isoborneol,α-norborneol andβ-norborneol have been investigated in order to find out whether the oxidation is sensitive to the configuration of the alcohol. There is a definite and considerable variation in rate which is shown to arise from stereochemical consequences.

Enantiodivergent conversion of chiral secondary alcohols into tertiary alcohols
Nature, 2008From receptors in the nose to supramolecular biopolymers, nature shows a remarkable degree of specificity in the recognition of chiral molecules, resulting in the mirror image arrangements of the two forms eliciting quite different biological responses. It is thus critically important that during a chemical synthesis of chiral molecules only one of the

Alcoholic patients with secondary depression
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1983This study of alcoholic patients with and without secondary depression showed that the two groups were almost identical in demographic characteristics, early-life antisocial problems, quantity and frequency of drinking, and family history of affective disorder.

A New Method for the Deoxygenation of Secondary Alcohols
Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1975On reaction with tributylstannane, O-cycloalkyl thiobenzoates and O-cycloalkyl S-methyl dithiocarbonates, derived from secondary alcohols, give good yields of the corresponding hydrocarbons. The mechanism of this planned reaction is radical in character and thus rearrangements common in carbocation reactions are avoided. The particular applicability of

Anesthetic Potencies of Secondary Alcohol Enantiomers
Anesthesiology, 1987The Meyer-Overton rule has been interpreted to mean that general anesthetics act at a nonpolar site, either in a lipid bilayer or a protein. Optical isomers, also called enantiomers, are pairs of compounds with the same molecular formula and functional groups, but which differ in the arrangement of the groups around an "asymmetric" carbon atom and in ...
