Base-Free Dynamic Kinetic Resolution of Secondary Alcohols Using “Piano-Stool” Complexes of N-Heterocyclic Carbenes

Organometallics, 2007
“Piano-stool” complexes of rhodium and iridium activated by fluorinated and non-fluorinated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands were shown to be catalysts for racemization in the one-pot chemoenzymic dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of secondary alcohols.

Kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of some heterocyclic secondary alcohols by N-bromoacetamide in acid medium

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 2, 1985
The kinetics of oxidation of 12 epimeric pairs of 1-hetera-2,6-diphenylcyclohexan-4-ols by N-bromoacetamide in the presence of perchloric acid in aqueous acid have been investigated. The oxidation is first-order in both oxidant and substrate and of minus-one-order in acetamide (an intermediate in the reaction) at constant acid concentration.

Rapid and Selective Catalytic Oxidation of Secondary Alcohols at Room Temperature by Using (N‐Heterocyclic Carbene)–Ni0 Systems

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2010
AbstractThe selective, anaerobic catalytic oxidation of secondary alcohols at room temperature by using an in situ (N‐heterocyclic carbene)–Ni0 system is presented. The use of non‐anhydrous, non‐degassed 2,4‐dichlorotoluene as both the oxidant and the solvent allows for very short reaction times and very high yields.

Enhanced Rate and Selectivity by Carboxylate Salt as a Basic Cocatalyst in Chiral N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Catalyzed Asymmetric Acylation of Secondary Alcohols

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2013
The rate and enantioselectivity of chiral NHC-catalyzed asymmetric acylation of alcohols with an adjacent H-bond donor functionality are remarkably enhanced in the presence of a carboxylate cocatalyst. The degree of the enhancement is correlated with the basicity of the carboxylate. With a cocatalyst and a newly developed electron-deficient chiral NHC,

An Efficient and Recyclable Catalyst for N‐Alkylation of Amines and β‐Alkylation of Secondary Alcohols with Primary Alcohols: SBA‐15 Supported N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Iridium Complex

Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis, 2013
AbstractA mesoporous silica (SBA‐15)‐supported pyrimidine‐substituted N‐heterocyclic carbene iridium complex was prepared and used as a catalyst for both environmentally friendly N‐alkylation of amines and β‐alkylation of secondary alcohols with primary alcohols.
