Floral Synorganization and Secondary Pollen Presentation in Four Marantaceae from Costa Rica

International Journal of Plant Sciences, 2008
The Marantaceae have one of the most spectacular pollination mechanisms, including proterandry, secondary pollen presentation, and an explosive style movement. Because the flower has only a single chance to become pollinated, floral structures and processes have to be precisely synorganized and synchronized.

Self-interference is reduced in a secondary pollen presentation species, Duperrea pavettifolia (Rubiaceae)

Flora - Morphology, Distribution, Functional Ecology of Plants, 2012
Occurrence of secondary pollen presentation (SPP) is evidenced for Duperrea pavettifolia. For this, self-pollen was presented on the stigma and reduced fertilization was observed in this case. The receptive area located in the furrow of the stigma becomes receptive from the third day of elongation growth.

Descriptions of secondary pollen presentation

1993
Floral features. All or nearly all species are dioecious. Knuth (1904), however, cites a report of trees being male in their sex expression when young and female later. Perianth of one whorl of three largely united segments. Stamens two to thirty, partly or wholly united. Ovary superior, consisting of a single uniovulate carpel.

Secondary Pollen Presentation in the Chamelaucium Alliance of the Myrtaceae: a Compact Substigmatic Ring in Chamelaucium

Australian Journal of Botany, 1991
In Chamelaucium uncinatum (Geraldton wax), the flowers are protandrous and pollen is presented to potential pollinators on a compact ring of stylar hairs. The anthers dehisce in the bud, and the pollen which is suspended in a lipidic fluid adheres to the stylar hairs as the stamens uncurl.

Pollination and Reproductive Biology ofRauvolfia grandiflora(Apocynaceae): Secondary Pollen Presentation, Herkogamy and Self-Incompatibility

Plant Biology, 1999
Abstract: The pollination and reproductive biology of Rauvolfia grandiflora were studied in natural populations in the forest of the Recife Botanical Garden. R. grandiflora is a shrubby species (2 to 5 m), the flowers are hermaphrodite and salverform. The corolla tube is white and the five free lobes of the corolla are flushed with violet.

Secondary pollen presentation on anther hairs enhances reproductive fitness in Brandisia hancei, a protogynous perennial with autonomous selfing

Plant Ecology & Diversity, 2018
Background: Secondary pollen presentation (SPP) is a phenomenon where pollen is relocated from within the anthers to other floral structures for presentation.Aims: We report a new mechanism of androecial SPP on anther hairs, which is involved in increasing reproductive fitness in Brandisia hancei. Methods: The morphological change of anther hairs during

Portioned pollen release and the syndromes of secondary pollen presentation in the Campanulales-Asterales-complex11)Dedicated in friendship to Prof. Dr. Andreas Sievers on the occasion of his 65th birthday (June 21, 1996))

Flora, 1995
Summary The release of pollen in portions, i. e. limiting the pollen removed by individual pollinators during a single visit, is a widespread phenomenon. The biological significance of this phenomenon is that it helps to optimize the pollination.

Whether pistil show diversity in bisymmetric and zygomorphic flowers in Fumarioideae (Papaveraceae): especially focus on stigma development, structure and secondary pollen presentation

Protoplasma
Pistils of Fumarioideae (Papaveraceae) show diversity in morphology, whether it is involved in the formation of flower symmetry is unclear for pistil morphogenesis and ovule development characteristic are poorly known. In this study, seven species of Fumarioideae were studied under SEM, LM and TEM, six developmental stages can be recognized: pistil ...
