Meta-representation and secondary representation
Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2001Elsewhere in this issue (p. 388) Josep Call summarizes an elegant series of studies in support of the conclusion that chimpanzees use a form of ‘knowledge abstraction’ to solve novel social problems, including those requiring recognition of what competitors may be informed about through having ‘seen’ objects or events.

Spectrum‐like graphical representation of RNA secondary structure [PDF]
AbstractWe consider graphical representation for RNA secondary structure by assigning four horizontal lines to the unpaired bases A, C, G, U and four horizontal lines to paired bases A′, C′, G′, U′. The RNA graphical representation based on eight equidistant horizontal lines can be viewed as natural extension of the earlier four‐line graphical ...

An Algebraic Representation of RNA Secondary Structures
Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 1992This paper develops mathematical methods for describing and analyzing RNA secondary structures. It was motivated by the need to develop rigorous yet efficient methods to treat transitions from one secondary structure to another, which we propose here may occur as motions of loops within RNAs having appropriate sequences.

Analytic representation of secondary-electron spectra
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1987The secondary-electron spectrum, or the energy distribution of the ejected electrons resulting from charged-particle impact, is a crucial input to the microscopic modeling of radiation actions. The present article shows a general method for systematizing a bulk of data on the secondary-electron spectrum into a small number of indices.

Secondary School Students' Representations of Solids
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1989The study examined secondary school students' ability to interpret various representations of simple three-dimensional objects. Verbal descriptions, descriptions based on coordinates, graphical representations, and actual prototypes were employed. The two-dimensional graphical representations were plans, elevations, and perspective drawings.

A 3D Graphical Representation of RNA Secondary Structures
Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 2004In this paper, we proposed a 3-D graphical representation of RNA secondary structures. Based on this representation, we outline an approach by constructing a 3-component vector whose components are the normalized leading eigenvalues of the L/L matrices associated with RNA secondary structure.

Secondary representation: continued…
Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2002For better or, perhaps, worse, we are cognitively equipped to take other minds into account as we negotiate the social world. But what is behind the emergence of this ability to recognize mind in others? It might have arisen de novo in our species, with no precursors in primate phylogeny, but such a drastic discontinuity is not likely.

Face representation in the human secondary somatosensory cortex
Clinical Neurophysiology, 2005To investigate the somatotopic organization of the facial skin area in the secondary somatosensory cortex (SII) in humans.Somatosensory evoked magnetic fields following air-puff stimulation of 5 body sites, the foot, the lip and 3 points of the facial skin (forehead, cheek and mandibular angle point), were recorded.

Model Representation of Secondary Organic Aerosol in CMAQv4.7
Environmental Science & Technology, 2010Numerous scientific upgrades to the representation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) are incorporated into the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system. Additions include several recently identified SOA precursors: benzene, isoprene, and sesquiterpenes; and pathways: in-cloud oxidation of glyoxal and methylglyoxal, particle-phase ...

Under-representation in nationally representative secondary data
International Journal of Research & Method in Education, 2012There has been a significant increase in the use of secondary data sets. Many such data sets purport to be nationally representative. Secondary data sets include research commissioned by the National Center for Education Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control, and other public entities.
