Effect of nicotine on secretory component synthesis by secretory epithelial cells
Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology, 1996Previously, we reported that secretory component (SC), lactoferrin (LF), and lysozyme (LY) levels were significantly lower in saliva from smokeless tobacco (ST) users than in saliva from control non-tobacco users. However, the levels of salivary immunoglobulin A were significantly higher, albeit with an altered attachment of SC, in ST users than in ...

Secretory component in pulmonary adenocarcinoma and mesothelioma
Histopathology, 1986The distribution of secretory component was examined by an immunoperoxidase method in 40 pulmonary adenocarcinomas, 11 malignant pleural mesotheliomas and areas of normal lung adjacent to the tumours. Secretory component was demonstrated in tumour cells in 25 (67%) adenocarcinomas.

Secretory meningioma with lipomatous component: case report
Brain Tumor Pathology, 1999A case of meningioma coexisting with both lipomatous and secretory components, the latter characterized by hyaline inclusion bodies, is reported. The neuroradiological features of lipomeningioma are reevaluated, and the possible pathogenetic mechanisms of this unique combination in the present case are discussed.

The structure of bovine secretory component
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1987Bovine secretory component (SC) has been cleaved with trypsin into a series of fragments and their N-terminal amino acid sequences have been determined. The close homology with the known sequence of human SC has enabled the sequential order of the fragments to be deduced. The results indicate that bovine SC consists of a single glycosylated polypeptide

Characterization of the human secretory component gene promoter
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1997Secretory Component (SC) is a receptor molecule implicated in the transepithelial transport of polymeric immunoglobulins. We have cloned and characterized the first exon, part of the first intron and 3500 bp of the upstream region of the gene and determined the transcription initiation region.

A simple method, allowing easy detection of abnormally increased sIgA levels is described. It consists in quantitation of combined SC by gel double diffusion, using appropriate anti-SC immune sera. The technical conditions, locating the threshold of sensitivity of precipitation at about 25 microgram/ml, a value higher than that found in normal sera ...

The levels of serum secretory component (SC), immunoglobulins, rheumatoid factor, HBs-antigen and HBs-antibody were determined in patients with liver disease, especially chronic liver disease. In chronic liver disease, decreases in serum SC were accompanied by increases in the titer of rheumatoid factor.

Serum Secretory IgA and IgM and Free Secretory Component in IgA Nephropathy
Nephron, 1995IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is characterized by the presence of IgA and C3 deposits in the mesangium. Mesangial IgA is mostly dimeric IgA1 with a J chain, lacking a secretory component. In view of the recent demonstration of elevated serum levels of secretory component and secretory IgA in liver disease and HIV infection associated with hyper-IgA, we ...

Uncoupling of the secretory pathways for IgA and secretory component by cholestasis
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1987Circulating polymeric immunoglobulin A (IgA) binds to secretory component (SC) on the surface of rat hepatocytes and is internalized and transported by vesicles to the canalicular membrane where the IgA-SC complex is secreted into bile. To further characterize this transport pathway, we examined the effects of bile flow reduction or transient bile ...

Secretory IgA, free secretory component and IgD in saliva of newborn infants
Early Human Development, 2001To determine levels of secretory IgA (sIgA), free secretory component (FSC) and IgD in saliva of newborn infants at the age of 1 day and to evaluate the detection patterns, the influence of saliva flow and the relation to serum derived proteins.Seventy-three healthy newborn infants were studied.
