Identification of group X secretory phospholipase A2as a natural ligand for mouse phospholipase A2receptor [PDF]
Phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) mediates various biological responses elicited by group IB secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2-IB). The recently cloned group X sPLA2 (sPLA2-X) possesses several structural features characteristic of sPLA2-IB.

Secretory phospholipase A2 is required to produce histologic changes associated with gastroduodenal reflux in a murine model [PDF]
ObjectiveThe earliest response of esophageal mucosa to gastric reflux is the development of oxidative damage and inflammation. These processes contribute to the development of metaplasia known as Barrett's esophagus, as well as the progression to ...

Multiple forms of secretory phospholipase A2 in plants
Progress in Lipid Research, 2005Multiple secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) genes have been identified in plants and encode isoforms with distinct regulatory and catalytic properties. Elucidation of this genetic and biochemical heterogeneity has provided important clues to the regulation and function of the individual enzymes.

Phospholipase A2 receptor: a regulator of biological functions of secretory phospholipase A2
Prostaglandins and Other Lipid Mediators, 2002The phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein related to the C-type animal lectin family that includes the mannose receptor. PLA2R regulates a variety of biological responses elicited by specific types of secretory PLA2s (sPLA2s).

Immunochemical relatedness between secretory phospholipase A2 and intracellular·phospholipase A2
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985The immunochemical relationship between rat pancreatic phospholipase A2 and rat splenic phospholipase A2 was examined with the use of anti-rat pancreatic phospholipase A2 antibody as a probe. The immunoelectrophoretic patterns showed that the antibody cross-reacted with the splenic enzyme.

Human cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2, 85 kDa) appears to be pharmacologically distinct from human secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2, 14 kDa). Marine natural products and PLA2 substrate and product analogs were potent inhibitors of human recombinant sPLA2 (r-sPLA2), whereas these compounds stimulated, weakly inhibited, or had no effect on cPLA2 ...

Dendritic-cell activation by secretory phospholipase A2
Blood, 2005AbstractDendritic cells (DCs), also referred to as the sentinels of the immune system, induce and coordinate important functions of immune surveillance. DCs acquire immunity-initiating capacity only after a process of maturation usually induced by ligands that bind to members of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or toll-like receptor families.

Secretory phospholipase A2 enzymes in atherogenesis
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2005Immunohistochemistry studies have confirmed the presence of group IIA, group V and group X secretory phospholipase A2 in human or mouse atherosclerotic lesions. The possibility that secretory phospholipase A2 plays a role in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis (and is not merely a marker for localized inflammation) has been substantiated by a number

Discovery of Bioavailable Inhibitors of Secretory Phospholipase A2
2006Substrate-mimetic inhibitors of sPLA2 with submicromolar in vitro potency were discovered by use of a novel dual substrate screening strategy. In vivo evaluation of selected inhibitors in the rat carrageenan paw edema model of inflammation, however, indicated that in vitro potency was not a good predictor of in vivo activity.
