Climate-driven Shifts in Quantity and Seasonality of River Discharge over the past 1000 Years from the Hydrographic Apex of North America [PDF]
Runoff generated from high elevations is the primary source of freshwater for western North America, yet this critical resource is managed on the basis of short instrumental records that capture an insufficient range of climatic conditions. Here we probe

Sediment yields from small, steep coastal watersheds of California
Study region: Coastal watersheds of southern California, United States. Study focus: We sought to better understand the rates and variability of suspended-sediment discharge from small coastal watersheds (

Controls on spatial and temporal variations in sand delivery to salmonid spawning riffles [PDF]
Fine sediment infiltration into gravel interstices is known to be detrimental to incubating salmonid embryos. Infiltration into spawning riffles can show large spatial variations at the scale of a morphological unit and over time, with significant ...

Sediment traps with guiding channel and hybrid check dams improve controlled sediment retention [PDF]
Sediment traps with partially open check dams are crucial elements for flood protection in alpine regions. The trapping of sediment is necessary when intense sediment transport occurs during floods that may endanger urban areas at downstream river ...

Holocene Hydrological Changes Inferred from Alluvial Stream Entrenchment in North Tian Shan (Northwestern China) [PDF]
We analyze the possible contribution of climate change or tectonics on fluvial incision from the study of a case example along the northern flank of Tian Shan.

Impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities on stream flow and sediment discharge in the Wei River basin, China [PDF]
Reduced stream flow and increased sediment discharge are a major concern in the Yellow River basin of China, which supplies water for agriculture, industry and the growing populations located along the river. Similar concerns exist in the Wei River basin,

Ice sheets as a significant source of highly reactive nanoparticulate iron to the oceans [PDF]
The Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets cover ~\n10% of global land surface, but are rarely considered as active components of the global iron cycle. The ocean waters around both ice sheets harbour highly productive coastal ecosystems, many of which are ...

Study on Sediment Discharge of Watersheds from Reservoir Sedimentation.
