Sediment–flow interactions at channel confluences: A flume study

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Sediment transport and bed morphology at channel confluences with different confluence angles and discharge ratios are analyzed through a series of flume experiments.

Proposed Smart Market Design for Sediment Discharge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Water Resources Planning and Management, 2013
AbstractSediment discharge from erosion, urban runoff, and construction can cause environmental degradation. Governments try to regulate sediment, but the regulatory approach is costly to land owners. In principle, a market-based system could reduce costs, but the associated transaction costs are far too high, because market participants must find ...

Preconditioning and triggering of offshore slope failures and turbidity currents revealed by most detailed monitoring yet at a fjord-head delta [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Rivers and turbidity currents are the two most important sediment transport processes by volume on Earth. Various hypotheses have been proposed for triggering of turbidity currents offshore from river mouths, including direct plunging of river discharge,

Flood magnitude-frequency and lithologic control on bedrock river incision in post-orogenic terrain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Mixed bedrock-alluvial rivers - bedrock channels lined with a discontinuous alluvial cover - are key agents in the shaping of mountain belt topography by bedrock fluvial incision.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Can the Grain-for-Green Program Really Ensure a Low Sediment Load on the Chinese Loess Plateau?

open access: yesEngineering, 2019
The Chinese Loess Plateau is the most seriously eroded area in the world and contributes the vast majority of the sediment that goes into the Yellow River.

Wavelet analysis for modeling suspended sediment discharge [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2004
Wavelets, functions with zero mean and finite variance, have recently been found to be appropriate tools in investigating geophysical, hydrological, meteorological, and environmental processes. In this study, a wavelet-based modeling technique is presented for suspended sediment discharge time series.

Occurrence of metolachlor and trifluralin losses in the Save river agricultural catchment during floods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Rising pesticide levels in streams draining intensively managed agricultural land have a detrimental effect on aquatic ecosystems and render water unfit for human consumption.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Joint Probability Analysis of the Rich‐Poor Runoff and Sediment Discharge in Karst Watersheds

open access: yesWater Resources Research
As one of the largest contiguous karst landscapes in the world, southwest China has experienced severe soil erosion because of its frequent climate extremes, special hydrogeology, shallow and discontinuous soil, steep topography, and inappropriate land ...
