Germination speed modulates priority effects: Evidence from a large‐scale field study
Abstract Priority effects, where species that arrive first influence later arriving species, are often considered in terms of seed arrival time. However, the timing of seedling emergence may play a more critical role, as this defines when plants start interacting. Further, initial seed density may also be important, allowing early‐arriving species with

We report the first complete NMR assignment of taraxerone, a pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from Cnidoscolus aconitifolius (chaya). Using 2D NMR, DFT, and NBO analysis, we resolved spectral ambiguities due to high‐order couplings and signal overlap. Two Ring A conformers were identified and characterized.

Sedum plumbizincicola is a zinc‐cadmium hyperaccumulator native to China with high potential for use in phytoremediation. Synchrotron micro‐X‐ray fluorescence elemental imaging shows that zinc is localized in the leaf tips, petioles, and nodes with the highest Zn concentrations observed in the epidermis and vascular system of both leaves and stems ...

Critic's Choice Essay: The Limestone Glade
Today, we're going to have a look at a rather special place I refer to as "my limestone glade". A glade is defined as a "grassy open area in a woods." Now, add to this a thin cover of poor soil on a solid, limestone base, a scattering of stunted elms ...

The development of insect diversity and ecosystem complexity on green roofs: A review
A classification system of different roof types is presented to improve consistency in green roof research. Landscape and green roof characteristics influence ecosystem development, but can be further explained by ecological concepts, like neutral and niche theory.

Ecological Strategies for Legume Production on Extensive Green Roofs Under Heat and Nutrient Stress
ABSTRACT Urban agriculture on extensive green roofs presents opportunities for sustainable food production but is challenged by shallow substrates, nutrient limitations and heat stress. Ecological strategies such as companion planting and organic amendments may help alleviate these constraints, yet their effectiveness across plant life stages remains ...

Yes, we CAM! First evidence of CAM photosynthesis in a carnivorous plant
Evidence for weak, facultative CAM is reported for the first time in a carnivorous plant, i.e., in Mexican representatives of Pinguicula (Lentibulariaceae). Abstract Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) is a photosynthetic adaptation enabling higher CO2 concentration close to Rubisco and increased water use efficiency.
