Mitochondria Are Important Determinants of the Aging of Seeds [PDF]
Seeds enable plant survival in harsh environmental conditions, and via seeds, genetic information is transferred from parents to the new generation; this stage provides an opportunity for sessile plants to settle in new territories. However, seed viability decreases over long-term storage due to seed aging.

Reversal of the Effects of Aging in Soybean Seeds [PDF]
Accelerated aging predisposed seeds to imbibition injury. Slowing the rate of hydration prevented the loss of germinability due to imbibition injury. Germinability of accelerated aged seeds (50 hours) was increased from 10 to 90% by controlling the rate of imbibition. Slow hydration also prevented seed electrolyte leakage.

Effects of Seed Aging on Seed Germination and Seed Reserve Utilization in Mumian [PDF]
Mumian ( Bombax ceiba ) is a deciduous tree that can grow in the dry-hot valley of southwestern China. However, natural regeneration of mumian is significantly inhibited by some factors such as high temperature that can accelerate seed deterioration.

Seed aging, a common physiological phenomenon during forage seed storage, is a crucial factor contributing to a loss of vigor, resulting in delayed seed germination and seedling growth, as well as limiting the production of hay.

Mutations and the Ageing of Seeds [PDF]
M. NAVASHIN1 and his co-workers reported in a series of papers that plants produced from old seeds in Crepis show a great percentage of mutations. Similar observations were reported by Cartledge and Blakeslee2 and by Peto3 in America working with various plants. They confirmed the results found by Navashin and his co-workers.

Seed aging has become a topic of renewed interest but its mechanism remains poorly understood. Our recent analysis of stored mRNA degradation in aged Arabidopsis seeds found that the stored mRNA degradation rates (estimated as the frequency of breakdown ...

Influence of Seed Stratification and Seed Age on Emergence of Penstemon [PDF]
Studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of stratification and seed age on percent seedling emergence of Penstemon . Emergence differences occurred between the eight Penstemon selections, as well as between seed stratification treatments and seed ...

The Effect of Priming on Germination and Enzyme Activity of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Seeds After Accelerated Aging [PDF]
Maximum germination percentage achieves immediately after harvesting and gradually de#creases with storage time. Aging is one of the key factors in plant yield loss especially in vegetables.

Impact of accelerated aging on seed quality, seed coat physical structure and antioxidant enzyme activity of Maize (Zea mays L.) [PDF]
Aging induces many deteriorative changes to seeds during storage like protein degradation, enzyme inactivation and loss of membrane integrity. In this study, we investigate the impact of accelerated aging on seed quality, seed coat physical structure and
