Studies on Aged Seeds III: Sensitivity of Aged Wheat Seeds to X-Radiation
SUMMARYWheat (Triticum vulgare var. Baart, 2n = 42) seeds of different ages were X-rayed at different dosages and the frequency of chromosome aberrations and rate of germination were recorded. For the cytological study 1-, 3-, 13-, and 17-year-old seed were X-rayed at 1000r, 2000r, 3000r, and 4000r.

Accelerated agingeffect on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes activity of two soybean cultivars [PDF]
In order to identify the accelerated aging effects on enzyme and lipid peroxidation in soybean an experiment was conducted based on completely randomized design by factorial arrangement with five levels of seed aging (3, 6, 9, 12, days to aging) and ...

Calibration of accelerated aging test as a vigor test to predict the seedling emergence of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in field conditions [PDF]
Introduction International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) defined seed vigour as "the sum of those properties of the seed which determine the level of activity and performance of the seed or seed lot during germination and seedling emergence".

Effect of Nitrogen Reactive Compounds on Aging in Seed [PDF]
Reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are universal compounds that are constantly present in plant cells. RNS function depends on their actual level (the "nitrosative door" concept), duration of plant exposure to RNS and the context of the exposure. RNS are involved in the nitration of nucleic acids and fatty acids, posttranslational protein modifications ...

Influence of Stratification and Seed Age on Germination of Penstemon Seeds
Seeds of eight Penstemon selections, stratified for 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, or 0 weeks in 1989 and 1990, displayed significant germination differences between species, between weeks of stratification, and between years. Germination varied from zero with P. digitalis in both 1989 and 1990 with no stratification, to 68.0% and 72.8% with P.
