Physio-biochemical evaluation of soybean (Glycine max L.) genotypes exhibiting variable seed coat colour

Journal of oilseeds research, 2023
Eighteen promising soybean genotypes having different seed coat colour i.e. yellow, green, brown and blackwere examined for physio-biochemical differences. The highest mean crude protein content was recorded in brown (42.86%), followed by yellow coloured

Genetics of seed coat colour in lentil

Euphytica, 1992
Four grey mottled seed coat colour lentil lines/cultivars were crossed to one brown seed coat colour cultivar. The F1 hybrids were brown seeded in all the crosses. Segregation pattern for seed coat colour in F2 and F3 generations revealed that it is under control of a single dominant gene, which is present in the parent UPL 175 while a recessive gene ...

Biochemical composition of whole seed, decorticated seed and seed coat in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) of different seed coat colours

Journal of Oilseeds Research, 2014
Biochemical analysis of whole seed, decorticated seed and seed coat of different coloured varieties of sesame were studied. Maximum oil content in whole and decorticated seed was recorded in white seeds (47.5 and 51%, respectively). Light brown seed coat showed maximum oil content (15.0%).

Genetic control of the seed coat colour of Middle American and Andean bean seeds

Genetica, 2014
Seed coat colour of bean seeds is decisive for acceptance of a cultivar. The objectives of this research were to determine whether there is maternal effect for "L", a* and b* colour parameters in Middle American and Andean bean seeds; to obtain estimates of heritability and gain with selection for "L", a* and b* values; and select recombinants with the

Genetics of seed-coat colour in Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Mansf.

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1978
Intervarietal crosses in watermelon, Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Mansf., involving six parents with black (J18-1 and J 75), brown (J56-1 and N.H. Midget), red (Bykovski-199) or light cream (Red Nectar) seed-coat colour were made. Parents, F1, F2 and backcross populations were evaluated for their phenotypic expressions with regard to the seed-coat ...

Differentially expressed gene profiles of soybean seeds with contrasting seed coat colour

Plant Science Today
Soybeans are a vital source of plant-based protein and are widely utilised for various agricultural and industrial purposes. One notable characteristic of soybeans is the diversity in their seed coat colour, which ranges from yellow, black, brown and ...

Inheritance of seed coat colour in broad bean (Vicia faba L.)

Euphytica, 1985
The inheritance of the seed coat colours ‘violet’, ‘spotted’, ‘brown’, ‘green’, ‘red’, ‘black’ and ‘beige’ was investigated in a 10×10 diallel cross between broad bean (Vicia faba L. major) lines. ‘Spotted’ seed colour was dominant over any uniform seed coat colouring. Brown was dominant over black, green and normal (beige colour).
