METTL3 knockout accelerates hepatocarcinogenesis via inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress response

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

Promoting lentil germination and stem growth by plasma activated tap water, demineralized water and liquid fertilizer [PDF]

open access: yesRSC Adv., 2017,7, 31244-31251, 2017
Tap water, demineralized water and liquid fertilizer have been activated using an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) to investigate their benefits for the germination rate and stem elongation rate of lentils from Puy-en-Velay (France). By plasma-activating tap water, we have obtained germination rates as high as 80% (instead of 30% with tap water).

Analysis of the longitudinal behavior of serum levels of Soluble Flt‐1 and Placental Growth Factor in pregnant women with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study analyzed longitudinal trajectories of soluble fms‐like tyrosine kinase‐1 (sFlt‐1) and placental growth factor (PlGF) and sFlt‐1/PlGF ratio in a cohort of pregnant patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods Blood samples were collected (14‐18, 24‐26, 30‐32, 34‐36 and 38‐40 weeks), stored at ‐80°C and evaluated for ...

Functional genomics of seed dormancy in wheat: advances and prospects

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2014
Seed dormancy is a mechanism underlying the inability of viable seeds to germinate under optimal environmental conditions. To achieve rapid and uniform germination, wheat and other cereal crops have been selected against dormancy.

Central injection of abscisic acid attenuates mood disorders induced by subchronic stress in male mice

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 12, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Stressful life increases the risk of mental and psychological disorders and cognitive deficits. Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone that has been recently discovered in mammalians. ABA is produced in response to stressful stimuli and it can reduce anxiety‐like behaviors and depression and improve cognitive function.

A Cellular Automaton Model for Tumor Dormancy: Emergence of a Proliferative Switch [PDF]

open access: yesChen D, Jiao Y, Torquato S (2014) A Cellular Automaton Model for Tumor Dormancy: Emergence of a Proliferative Switch. PLoS ONE 9(10): e109934, 2014
Malignant cancers that lead to fatal outcomes for patients may remain dormant for very long periods of time. Although individual mechanisms such as cellular dormancy, angiogenic dormancy and immunosurveillance have been proposed, a comprehensive understanding of cancer dormancy and the "switch" from a dormant to a proliferative state still needs to be ...

The value of internal memory for population growth in varying environments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In varying environments it is beneficial for organisms to utilize available cues to infer the conditions they may encounter and express potentially favorable traits. However, external cues can be unreliable or too costly to use. We consider an alternative strategy where organisms exploit internal sources of information.

Comparative Salt Tolerance Study of Some Acacia Species at Seed Germination Stage [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Journal of Plant Sciences 15(3-4) (2016) 66-74, 2016
Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the seed germination response of six Acacia species under different NaCl concentrations in order to explore opportunities for selection and breeding salt tolerant genotypes. Methodology: Germination of seeds was evaluated under salt stresses using 5 treatment levels: 0, 100, 200, 300 and ...
