Seeds as oil factories

Plant Reproduction, 2018
Studying seed oil metabolism. The seeds of higher plants represent valuable factories capable of converting photosynthetically derived sugars into a variety of storage compounds, including oils. Oils are the most energy-dense plant reserves and fatty acids composing these oils represent an excellent nutritional source.

Minor Seed Oils XVI: Examination of Fifteen Seed Oils

Fette, Seifen, Anstrichmittel, 1984
AbstractFifteen seed oils from nine plant families have been examined. Oleic acid is the major component in all the oil samples, maximum being in Amaranthus tricolor (91.0%), except in the seed oil of Physalis maxima. All the samples contain arachidic and behenic acids.

Investigation of Turkish Poppy Seeds and Seed Oils

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2004
The oil yields, fatty acid compositions, and total protein contents of three varieties of Turkish poppy were investigated. Solvent extraction of yellow seed gave the highest oil yield (49.2%), while white seed (36.8%) and blue seed (33.6) showed considerably lower yields.

CHARACTERIZATION OF AMARANTH SEED OILS

Journal of Food Lipids, 2007
ABSTRACT The oil fractions of Amaranthus caudatus L. and Amaranthus cruentus L. seeds were studied after different treatments of the seeds. The oil contents were 7.1 and 8.5% for raw A. caudatus L. and A. cruentus L. seeds, and consisted of 80.3–82.3% of triacylglycerols (TAGs). Phospholipids represented 9.1–10.2% of the oil. The squalene content was 4.

Studies on some seeds and seed oils

Bioresource Technology, 1998
The chemical compositions of seeds and the physicochemical characteristics of the oils extracted from them have been investigated for six varieties of mango (Mangifera indica) seeds and for five other tropical seeds. The oil contents of Mangifera indica seeds were in the range 12·2–25·8%, while those of the other seeds were as high as 54·7% in Bridelia

Microencapsulation of sesame seed oil by tamarind seed mucilage

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2020
Tamarind seed mucilage (TSM) was evaluated as a novel wall material for microencapsulation of sesame oil (SO) by spray-drying method. Wall material:core ratios of 1:1 (M1) and 1:2 (M2) were considered, and the corresponding physical and flow properties, thermal stability, functional groups composition, morphology, encapsulation efficiency, and ...

Seed Storage Oil Mobilization

Annual Review of Plant Biology, 2008
Storage oil mobilization starts with the onset of seed germination. Oil bodies packed with triacylglycerol (TAG) exist in close proximity with glyoxysomes, the single membrane–bound organelles that house most of the biochemical machinery required to convert fatty acids derived from TAG to 4-carbon compounds.
