Processing waste: bioactive components and antioxidant capacity of cold-pressed oils from some fruit seeds

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2023
In this study, the possible use of seeds after fruit processing to obtain unconventional cold-pressed edible oil was investigated. For this purpose, seeds of quince, sour cherries and plum were used.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Artificial selection on GmOLEO1 contributes to the increase in seed oil during soybean domestication.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2019
Increasing seed oil content is one of the most important breeding goals for soybean due to a high global demand for edible vegetable oil. However, genetic improvement of seed oil content has been difficult in soybean because of the complexity of oil ...

Mapping of seed quality traits in the C genome of Brassica napus by using a population carrying genome content of B. oleracea and their effect on other traits

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, 2021
Increasing seed oil and protein contents and reducing the content of seed glucosinolates (GSLs) in Brassica oilseed crops are important objectives in breeding. By using an oilseed rape (B. napus L.) doubled‐haploid (DH) population carrying genome content

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Influence of water stress on engineering characteristics and oil content of sunflower seeds

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Knowing some physical and mechanical characteristics and oil percentage of sunflower seeds could be useful for harvesting and processing equipment and activities such as transportation, storage, food production processes and establishing database of this

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Polimorphism of marker loci, linked with QTL controlled seed traits

open access: yesФактори експериментальної еволюції організмів, 2013
Aims. Marker assisted selection of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) lines with different seed oil content and some fatty acids. Methods. SSR-analysis, oil content, fatty acids analysis of sunflower lines. Results. There is a polymorphism in marker loci,

Validation of a Cellular Imaging‐Based Method as a Potential Biomarker for SPG4 Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) comprises a group of rare genetic diseases characterized by length‐dependent axonal degeneration of the corticospinal tracts and dorsal columns, whose main clinical feature is spastic gait. Pathogenic variants in the SPG4 gene cause Spastic Paraplegia Type 4 (SPG4‐HSP), the most common form of HSP.

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...
