Proceedings of the 33rd Annual ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology, 2020
As sensors and interactive devices become ubiquitous and transition outdoors and into the wild, we are met with the challenge of mass deployment and actuation. We present E-seed, a biomimetic platform that consumes little power to deploy, harvests energy from nature to install, and functions autonomously in the field.

Fruit secondary metabolites shape seed dispersal effectiveness
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 2021Plant secondary metabolites (PSMs) play a central role in seed dispersal and fruit defense, with potential for large impacts on plant fitness and demography. Yet because PSMs can have multiple interactive functions across seed dispersal stages, we must systematically study their effects to determine the net consequences for plant fitness.

Milling Effects on Mustard Seed Shape
Transactions of the ASAE, 1993Mustard seed is dry-milled during initial processing to reduce its particle size, thereby enhancing liquid uptake. Although most particles are cracked or broken by milling, the size distribution of a milled sample, determined by sieving, may only be slightly broadened. The maximum diameter of some seeds actually increased after milling.

Shape of the Particles Produced by Seeded Dispersion Polymerization of Styrene
Коллоидный журнал, 2014In this work, seeded dispersion polymerization of styrene was carried out in the presence of various types of seed particles. We found that in the case of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) seeds, the shape of the resulting particles remained spherical.

Domestication Loci Controlling Panicle Shape, Seed Shattering, and Seed Awning
2018Cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) was domesticated from the Asian wild species, Oryza rufipogon Griff. Among morphological differences between them, one of the striking traits specific to cultivated rice is loss of seed shattering. In the early stage of rice domestication, the related traits of this character have been desirable for the ancient seed ...

Evolutionary 3D-Shape Segmentation Using Satellite Seeds
2012The aim of 3D-shape segmentation is to divide the surface of an object into meaningful parts. We present a novel version of seed-point-based segmentation including an evolutionary optimization to obtain better segments. At first, some initial seeds are defined.
