Germination Kinetics of Ferula communis L. Seeds, a Potentially Multipurpose-Use Wild Species

open access: yesSeeds
Despite exhibiting intriguing features associated with its multipurpose applications and drought tolerance, Ferula communis remains a wild and uncultivated species, with limited experimental research on its biology, starting from seed germination and ...

Seed Germination in Ginkgo biloba L. I. Influences of Cold Treatment, Gibberellic Acid and Red Light [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
The influences of cold treatment, gibberellic acid and red light treatment on rate of germination of seeds of Ginkgo biloba L. were followed for a 12-wk period. Dispersal units were collected, and the outer fleshy layer was removed soon after harvest. Of

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Fungal Necrotrophic Interaction: A Case Study of Seed Immune Response to a Seed-Borne Pathogen

open access: yesSeeds
Seeds play a vital role in the perpetuation of plant species, both in natural environments and agriculture. However, they often face challenges from biotic stresses, such as seed-borne pathogenic fungi.

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

Inheritance and Response to Selection for Seed Weight Using the Large Seeded Landrace Oman 2 of Lucerne

open access: yesSeeds
Seed weight in lucerne (Medicago sativa) may affect subsequent seedling vigour and stand establishment. A landrace of lucerne (Oman 2) from Oman has a 100-seed weight over 60% larger than the largest seeded parent used in previous studies.
