Characterization of Seed Quality Traits Within 61 Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) Genotypes: Ionomes and Daily Values

open access: yesSeeds
Mineral malnutrition negatively impacts almost 30% of the world population and could result in anemia, blindness, and stunted growth. Seed traits involve nutritional, physical, and physiological characteristics that play a key role in achieving seed ...

Causality between Energy Consumption and GDP: Evidence from 30 OECD and 78 Non-OECD Countries [PDF]

open access: yes
Energy arguably plays a vital role in economic development. Hence many studies have attempted to test for causality between energy and economic growth; however, no consensus has emerged.

Organic seed production and seed regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Organic farmers must use organic seed material if such seed are available. If not available, conventional seeds can be used. This request exists in all accredited standards for organic farming.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

The Seed Order

open access: yes, 2017
This paper introduces the seed order, a partial order of the class of uniform countably complete ultrafilters that generalizes the Mitchell order on normal measures. Like that order, the seed order is consistently a linear ordering even under strong large cardinal assumptions. In fact, the linearity of the seed order is a feature of all known canonical

The roles and applications of extracellular vesicles in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are minute versions of cells limited by a lipid bilayer containing cytoplasm from the cell that releases them, but without a nucleus and thus unable to self‐reproduce. EVs contain multiple molecules (proteins, lipids, glycans, and nucleic acids) they can induce complex responses in cells.

The socio economic drivers of rural electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa [PDF]

open access: yes
A significant proportion of the population in sub-Saharan Africa live in the rural areas, with the majority living on less than US$1 per day. Access to electricity is considered an essential element in the sustainable development of rural areas and an ...

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Methods for Improving the Germination of Rhodotypos scandens (Thunb.) Makino Seeds through Endocarp Removal

open access: yesPlants
Rhodotypos scandens (Thunb.) Makino is known to have a seed dispersal that is thick and stony (endocarp + seeds) and has potential as a landscaping tree seed.
