Dynamic analysis of a segmented telescope testbed

This paper describes the control analysis and simulation of a test rig currently being designed within the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) project. This project is now in the preliminary stage of development and consists in designing a very large optical and infrared telescope with a segmented primary mirror in the range of 10+ meters in diameter.

Laser Guide Star for Segmented Telescopes

We present an application of laser guide star for the alignment of segmented mirror telescopes. A combination of curvature and Shack—Hartmann wavefront sensors permits to detect the local piston and tilt errors of the elements of the primary mirror. We also achieve, with these sensors, the distortion of the wavefront due to atmospheric turbulence.

CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) is a project for the next generation of the ground-based gamma-ray observatory. CTA will cover a wide energy range, 20 GeV and 300 TeV, by 3 types of the telescopes whose diameters are different. The Large-Sized Telescopes (LSTs) of the CTA are designed to cover the lowest energy range.

Aberration Correction In A Telescope With A Segmented Primary

In a Cassegrain telescope with a segmented primary mirror, wavefront aberrations are introduced by segment figure errors, segment positioning errors, secondary figure errors, and secondary positioning errors. We give here an analytic description of these errors. The various sources contribute different aberrations to the wavefront.
